Job Description:

MYR Group Inc., one of the largest electrical contractors in the country, has an immediate opportunity for a Shop Mechanic based out of the Glen Allen, VA shop. We have a large variety of exciting equipment that you will get to work with, ranging from trucks to heavy dirt equipment and large aerial cranes. No two days are the same!

Field Mechanic Duties:

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on company equipment.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems

  • Ensure quick repairs without compromising quality of work to minimize equipment downtime

  • Identify parts or machines that need new components or need to be replaced.

  • Understand and comply with the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other industry-specific professional and ethical conduct standards, if applicable.

Job Requirements

Shop Mechanic Skills/Qualifications:

  • Valid CDL preferred, but not required

  • Must have previous experience as a mechanic

  • Experience working on construction equipment preferred

  • Successful background, MVR, and federal drug screening

  • Able to travel as necessary

  • Welding skills: stick, mig, tig, and gas preferred

  • Ability to use a wide range of personal hand tools

Position Summary: Under direct to moderate supervision, the Mechanic is primarily responsible for performing maintenance, assembly, service, repair procedures on ODB debris collection units, and pull behind units. The Mechanic also works in assembling new debris collection units. Essential Functions of the Job: * Effectively read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics. * Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair hydraulic and electrical systems. * Installs, repairs and adjusts hydraulic pumps, safety valves, and other parts of the debris collection unit. * Installs, replaces, or adjusts filters, belts or similar objects to maintain equipment. * Troubleshoot issues. * Knowledge of electrical systems, hydraulics, fuel and brakes lines. * Tests all OEM operating functions of the working body of the debris collector. * Performs all required service and repair work required to return equipment to a functional status. * Conduct all installs and repairs within DOT or OEM standards. * Maintain a clean and respectable facility, equipment and work environment. * Maintain and organize shop and storage areas. Ensuring proper storage of flammable items. * Assembling within production line for debris collectors. * Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's): * Solid understanding of the function, operation and maintenance of truck and trailer mounted and vacuum equipment. * Must demonstrate solid understanding of hydraulic systems, electrical troubleshooting. * Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical data, drawings and schematics. * Must be able to understand, read, and write in English. * Ability to effectively use a multi-meter * Demonstrated computer skills to use company business systems to complete work orders and service records. * Must be very organized and possess the ability to multi-task. * Excellent communication skills with the ability to work as part of a team. * Self-motivated, shows complete accountability, is timely in all assignments. * Must own and supply a basic set of hand tools and storage box. The company will provide all large and specialized tools. * Ability to work well with others. Education and Experience: * High School education or GED preferred. * Minimum five (5) years, verifiable experience as a mechanic. * Five years of experience working on truck mounted vacuum equipment or related equipment preferred. * Solid understanding of the function, operation and maintenance of truck mounted vacuum equipment preferred.
