General Summary

The Shop Machinist is responsible for the set-up and operations of a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments to engineering specifications.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintains a safe, secure and healthy environment by adhering to Company/Customer safety standards and practices and to legal regulations, alerting others regarding potential hazards or concern

  • Performs all duties as assigned and adheres to TEAM's Core Values.

  • Operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce precision parts and instruments.

  • Reviews engineering specifications for a work order and performs calculations to determine the right tools, materials, and sequence of cutting and finishing operations.

  • Measures, examines and tests completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.

  • Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines.

  • Monitors the accuracy of machining work.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Previous experience with CNC machines and manual lathes or relevant industry experience preferred.

  • Ability to read a Calipers and Micrometers preferred.

  • Ability to provide all hand tools as needed to complete daily tasks specified by the Shop Foreman.

  • Travel Requirements:
    0% - 25%

Work Conditions

  • Position is based out of a branch or site location.

  • Field duties require indoor and outdoor work in a plant atmosphere

  • Interaction with other crew employees, as well as supervisors and client personnel

  • Working in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels

  • Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection

  • May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes

  • May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds

  • Must be able to walk and climb except when performing non-field duties

  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits employee to communicate effectively

  • Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodations, which permits employee to investigations

  • Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permit the employee to perform routine office duties

  • Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodations to perform office duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations

  • Sufficient personal mobility to maneuver within a refinery or plant environment to include the ability to gain access to elevated platforms via ladders and stairwells

  • Ability to maintain focus and multitask effectively

  • Excellent communication skills

A Day In The Life Typically Includes: * Perform pre-work safety and maintenance checks on equipment * Receive instructions and drawings and then review for understanding * Validate raw material to drawing and procedures * Set-up lathe and machine first part * Perform quality checks per procedure * Proceed to machine parts to drawing and procedures * Mark/label parts * Document time spent for each order * Clean area and maintain good housekeeping in work area What You Will Need: Basic Qualifications: * 3+ years experience operating manual lathes * 6+ months experience accurately calculating dimensions from drawings or prints while utilizing basic math and trigonometry skills. * Experience machining and maintaining tight tolerances (+/- .002") * Experience utilizing hand-held measurement tools, such as OD and ID micrometers and depth micrometers * 6+months experience setting up machines from drawings and prints Physical Requirements/Other Considerations: * Lifting, bending, squatting, and standing for extended periods of time * Candidate must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs, unassisted * Exposures will be loud noises, fumes, irritants, and smoke which may occur during machining process's * Position requires the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and pre-hire physical This position is not eligible for VISA sponsorship Want to learn more about Koch Heat Transfer?
