Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department is seeking to hire a Shop, Fleet, and Safety Coordinator. The Parks Foreperson is the lead/specialist in the Parks Maintenance series. The Parks Foreperson performs a variety of skilled, semi-skilled and lead duties requiring independent judgement and thorough knowledge of departmental operations, fleet/shop management, and safety in the development and maintenance of Boulder County Parks and Open Space. This is a full-time, benefitedposition, various schedules may be considered including: Monday
Friday 7:30am
4:00pm, plus every other Friday 7:00am
3:30pm; Monday
Thursday 7:00am
5:30pm.This position will work out of 5201 St. Vrain Drive Longmont, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt(eligible for overtime).
Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.
Hiring Salary Range: $73,848.00 - $90,126.00 Annually

Examples of Duties
Coordinates and supervises the repair and maintenance of parks and open space fleet
Manages use of parks and open space shop security and safety
Assists in developing Shop/Fleet/Safety aspects of the department's annual work plan
Leads development of the department's annual Shop, Fleet and Safety budgets
Plans, organizes, assigns and review work of parks employees in accordance with established goals and objectives
Supervises Shop Assistant and counsels employees concerning performance and recommends personnel actions in the areas of promotion and discipline
Investigates and resolves complaints regarding shop/fleet
Performs skilled duties training staff in the use of hand tools, power tools, shop, machines, fleet/equipment and safety equipment
Coordinates and oversees parks maintenance projects with other Boulder County personnel and outside agencies
Coordinates accident and incident reporting procedures
Demonstrates knowledge of National, Stare, County and departmental regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines related to fleet and workplace safety
Performs related work, as required
May be reassigned during emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent andfive years of parks or grounds maintenance experience, fleet operation and maintenance experience or experience in an outdoor recreation field, including at least two years in a lead capacity. Or, any equivalent combination of education and experience.
DRIVER'S LICENSE:
Applicants must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record

Must possess or acquire Class C driver's license within 6 months of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Knowledge of Vehicles, Equipment and Facilities:
Understanding of basic mechanical maintenance, tool, vehicle and equipment care.
5 years of parks, grounds, facility, or fleet maintenance experience, including at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of the use of materials, vehicles, equipment, tools, and procedures necessary for parks, construction and building maintenance.
Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to parks, construction and building maintenance.
Skill in supervision and organization.
Ability to work effectively with other employees, agencies and the public.
Able to obtain OSHA or equivalent certified safety certifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Back and Upper Body
Occasionally mows with self-propelled power mower or cut weeds with 15 lb. power weed whacker (supported with harness), moving from side to side. Occasionally shovels dirt and gravel, and digs holes for posts using clam digger and or 19 lb. digging bar. Occasionally lifts 43 lb. T-post driver (two man lift with handles) shoulder height to drive metal fence posts. Occasionally lifts eighty-pound cement bags (two man lift) and carried to work site. Occasionally lift and position with assistance ramps to allow tractor loading and unloading from trailer. Occasionally lift and operate two handed 60 lb. jackhammer to break rock. Occasionally picks up and removes trash. Must lift 40 lb. trash bag from ground level to truck bed height of 42 inches (could be two person lift).
Hands and Arms
Occasionally operate 2-3 lb. hand pruners held overhead. Occasionally operate 15 lb. chain saw with two hands. Requires fine motor dexterity to adjust and maintain power equipment.
Body Movement
Frequently must walk over uneven rough terrain either pushing, pulling, or carrying equipment. Requires agility to maneuver over limbs, branches, creeks, boulders, etc. Frequently requires ability to sit and drive tractor with mulcher while looking back. Occasionally kneels on angled surfaces to plant flowers and do other work on the ground.
