SUMMARY: The Shipping Supervisor supervises and coordinates activities of employees engaged in shipping and receiving of products, components, and/or replacement parts and in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage shipping and/or receiving personnel, including day to day planning and managing work schedules/duties, and managing hiring, training, performance, etc. within the department.
Oversee incoming and outgoing shipping activities, ensuring accuracy and completeness, fully meeting customer requirements on packaging and quality. Review shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
Determines space requirements and position of shipment in boxcars and trucks and lays out position of shipment, ensuring compliance with shipping specifications for boxcars and trucks. Determines routing and legal load limits of trucks.
Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair, and maintains vehicle maintenance report.
Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas.
Maintains reports, records, and documentation to reflect department activities, including compilation of unfilled orders and posting weight and shipping charges.
Analyzes performance of existing shipping and receiving systems, evaluating, and recommending new programs to improve distribution methods and implement cost reductions.
Works with management to establish and modify department operational methods and procedures.
Assist in other shipping and receiving activities as needed.
Must be able to read, write, and speak English in order to write routine reports and correspondence and complete necessary paperwork in a legible and thorough manner.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Strong interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.

Associate degree or equivalent from technical school, or equivalent work experience.
1-2 years related warehouse supervisory experience and/or training.
Basic computer skills in Microsoft (Excel and Word).
