Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment. Entry level position. Applies basic skills and duties and tasks are standardized. Works under direct supervision.
Essential Job Functions
Receives items by unloading vehicles, accepting deliveries, and unpacking containers.
Verifies items received by inspecting condition of items, compare count and price of items to purchase order and packing list and note all discrepancies.
Prepares shipments by assembling, packing, protecting, and labeling containers and packages.
Receive packages and materials and unpack as needed.
Determines method of shipment by examining items to be shipped, destination, route, rate, and time of shipment.
Tracks and traces shipment status.
Coordinates and plans customer orders.
Creates and manages reporting functions using MS Excel and other PC based reporting tools.
Assists with incoming and outgoing freight.
Selects appropriate shipping and packaging materials.
Checks receipts against purchase order for proper shipment, shortages, damages, or defects.
Completes receiving reports specified in standard procedures.
Moves or expedites material to proper department or storage location.
Adheres to safety policies and procedures.
Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
Notifies Yard Supervisor of the arrival of shipments of freight as needed.
Keeps accurate records of inventory and/or shipments coming in and going out.
Prepares other paperwork including bills of lading.
Receives and verifies inventory.
Other duties as assigned.
Requires moving of products weighing over one ton; incumbent must be physically able to meet the demands of keeping heavy products in order and shipped on schedule while adhering to safety practices and policies.
Works indoors and well as outdoors and has exposure to weather elements on a daily basis. Must properly accomplish objectives despite of weather elements.
Preferred Job Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (i.e. GED) or graduation from a certified technical school.
Shipping experience (dealing with actual parts/products, the MRP system, paperwork, crating, etc.)
Receiving experience (dealing with the MRP system, paperwork, putting parts away, etc.)
Warehouse experience (picking/pulling parts, organization, MRP system, etc.)
Forklift experience (desirable, but not required)
