The Shipping/Receiving Clerk must be accurate in all record keeping and he should be familiar with basic office procedures. Good communication and phone skills, including the ability to listen and follow directions are important to the job.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Check and answer emails from carriers, vendors, buyers and stores

  • Resolve any no show/late issues with stores

  • Address requests from carriers to move appointments

  • Resolve issues with vendors/carriers about overflows, freight not fitting in trailer

  • Answer questions from vendors about routing/exemption codes. Update exemption log

  • Cancel SRR numbers for buyers; look up delivery dates for buyers. Update cancelled SRR log

  • Help vendors with the TMS portal

  • Manages appointment Log for Distribution Center email carriers to confirm appointments for next day

  • Edit appointment log with any changes

  • Send DC appointment log to receiving & Managers daily

  • Follow up with any no shows/late or resets

Inbound Loads

  • Check the TMS portal daily (every 2 hours)

  • Consolidate loads

  • Look for any past due shipping windows

Check pallet pick up portal

  • Consolidate vendor loads with store returns

  • Request LTL rates, tender LTLs

  • Update DC appointment log as loads are tendered

  • Schedule delivery appointments for Mexico loads, LTL or truckloads

  • Check emails from the DC advising us of any no shows or late deliveries

  • Check with carriers, advise the DC of the new delivery date and change the date on the tms portal

Outbound Loads

  • Make the bill of lading (BOL) for the Outbound shipment

  • Update Store Delivery Report as loads are tendered

  • Schedule DTS (direct to store) loads

  • Resolve issues with empties needed at DC

  • Send Store Delivery Report to stores and managers daily

  • Answer emails from stores & reset with carriers

  • Check the portal for no shows or late deliveries

  • Closes ticket once the new delivery date has been scheduled with the carrier, update tms portal and Store Delivery Report

  • Fuel Surcharge

  • Check the fuel every Monday

  • Update fuel surcharge log

  • Update fuel surcharge in TMS

New Store Ramp Up

  • Ask carriers to bind on lanes.

  • Find the most economical and reliable carriers for ramp ups

  • Work with the carriers to cover loads

Special Requests

  • Picking up shopping carts, IT equipment, signs, fixtures, cash wraps, ladders, etc.


  • Ability to learn new systems, process and transportation methodology

  • High sense of urgency

  • Ability to work with limited direction and as a team member

  • Strong organization and planning skills

  • Ability to comprehend and enforce company programs, policies and procedures

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

  • At least 6 months of Data Entry experience

  • Basic math aptitude and problem solving skills

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing.

Sign for inbound shipments when necessary. Unload inbound trucks and safely move product for storage.</li> <li>Efficiently pick customer orders for shipment, ensuring that the correct number and type of product is picked. Assemble orders for shipment.</li> <li>Ensure outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage. Follow company quality guidelines. Repack and weigh any order that requires such handling.
