Job Purpose
AkzoNobel Wood Coatings is seeking a skilled Shipping and Receiving Supervisor to join our dynamic team in Roanoke, VA. This pivotal role involves overseeing and directing the activities related to material inspection, shipment coordination, and receiving department management. The ideal candidate will ensure efficient operations while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Shipping Responsibilities:
Coordinate and oversee outbound shipments to ensure timely and accurate delivery of products according to customer requirements.
Manage the safe operation of forklifts and trailer docking procedures.
Interpret and enforce shipping regulations and guidelines.
Coordinate special handling instructions for products as required.
Maintain inventory of department materials and supplies.
Receiving Responsibilities:
Supervise the receiving department's activities, including the storage and organization of raw materials.
Ensure proper acceptance and verification of Bills of Lading (BOLs) in SAP.
Collaborate with logistics to schedule and receive bulk materials efficiently.
General Responsibilities:
Uphold safety protocols and company policies, ensuring a clean and secure work environment.
Oversee timekeeping, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions within the team.
Maintain records and documentation related to production orders and shipments.
Conduct regular area housekeeping to uphold organizational standards.
Level of Autonomy
The Shipping and Receiving Supervisor will exercise independent judgment to optimize shipping and receiving processes. This role requires proactive decision-making to ensure reliability, efficiency, and compliance with company standards. Additionally, the supervisor will provide coaching and discipline as necessary to foster continuous improvement within the department.
Job Requirements
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent (Degree preferred).
Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in logistical operations, including team leadership.
Knowledge: Proficiency in truck scheduling, Bills of Lading (BOLs), and general shipping/receiving functions.
Skills: Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SAP proficiency preferred.
Qualifications: Ability to read and interpret safety guidelines, effective communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
Rewards/Benefits
The salary range for these skills is: $80,000 to $90,000. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
