Position Purpose:
The Shipping and Receiving Clerk is responsible for preparing outgoing shipments and receiving incoming shipments. Their duties include daily inbound receipts, preparing domestic and international outbound shipments, loading and unloading trucks, and general dock activities.
Responsibilities:
Manage the shipment and receipt of products, materials, and supplies
Competently use ERP/logistics software to track inbound/outbound shipments
Perform quality inspections of shipments based on project and/or company procedures
Pack and document outbound shipments, including required paperwork (e.g. commercial invoice, bill of lading)
Ship domestic and international packages via the appropriate carrier, while taking cost, delivery times, and required paperwork into consideration
Identify and resolve receiving discrepancies as they arrive
Promptly load and unload trucks
Place product in appropriate location by utilizing forklifts, pallet jacks and other available equipment
Track, trace, and update the status of inbound/outbound shipments
Collaborate and communicate with others involved in the shipment and receipt of products
Engage with vendors and drivers with a positive attitude
Perform tasks to company standards to efficiently and effectively meet department goals
Take initiative to improve methodology and find solutions to boost productivity
Communicate with management
Manage priorities as they change throughout the shift
Keep a clean, organized, and safe workspace, including tools and equipment
Accurately capture all labor hours and material in Epicor
Ensure TAIT's 5 standards of care are coordinated into daily activities: Safety, Quality, Team, Schedule, and Cost
Share skills and knowledge with others to help with department development. Assist with training others
Take ownership for decisions, actions, performance, and behavior
Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures
Attend meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required
Perform assigned duties according to the policies and expectations prescribed by the company
Requirements: Education, Experience, & Skills:
To perform the essential responsibilities, individuals must have the following level of education and experience, or equivalent combination. Additionally, the following certifications, knowledge, skills, or physical requirements are necessary for the position.
1-2 years of experience as a shipping and receiving clerk or similar role
Knowledge of shipping and receiving procedures and documents
Hands on experience with shipping related software, FedEx a plus
Forklift, and various shipping certification required, will train as needed
Proficient in Microsoft Office or similar software a plus
Knowledge of Epicor, Slack, and/or Box a plus
Communication skills which include, but are not limited to, written and oral communication, active listening, nonverbal communication
Teamwork through development of skills to collaborate with others to achieve departmental goals
Dependability, responsibility, and consistency in job performance
Willingness to learn and ask questions
Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Flexibility with work schedule. Normal work schedule is forty hours per week; however operational demands may necessitate other schedules to meet business needs. Overtime is limited for this role
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to frequently walk, bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, stoop, and kneel each day. Specific requirements are:
Must be able to look at a computer screen for extended periods of time
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
Must be able to lift or move 50 lbs.
Must be able to carry 50 lbs.
Must be able to pull or push 50 lbs.
Work conditions of the role are:
Work conditions may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions, including weather conditions for truck loading and unloading
Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work within or visit areas where required. This includes, safety glasses, reflective vest, ear plugs, safety toe shoes, and other PPE as required by the location
