Day Shift $18.80+ dependent on experience

Responsible for assisting with the maintenance of facility supplies and raw materials. Performs Receiving department operations and distribution of supplies to plant employees.

Roles and Responsibilities:


a. Assembles required materials to be used in packing items for replacement or repair; including building crates as required

b. Accurately generates packing slips, Bills of Lading, Shippers letter of Instruction or other required documentation used in shipping items to suppliers for replacement or repair

c. Processes materials and supplies according to written procedure while following all EHS guidelines

d. Handles outgoing hazardous material shipments according to regulations when required

e. Interviews and negotiates with freight forwarders to obtain best service and pricing when required


a. Performs all receiving tasks following approved work instructions and established departmental procedures involved with receiving and distributing supplies/materials under minimal supervision

b. Verifies physical counts against documentation to assure accuracy of goods received

c. Prepares and maintains records of stock room operations as required

d. Assists in Quality Control procedures required for critical items including checking for required certificates for received shipments and completing incoming inspection procedures specified for each material

e. Coordinates, clarifies, and prioritizes receiving functions and inventory stores

f. Helps unload and inspect incoming packaging and product for damage and correct documentation

Materials Coordination:

a. Assists in Quality Control Audits for receiving procedures when requested

b. Confers with purchasing, planning and manufacturing personnel to assure coordinated activities

c. Maintains Kanban ordering systems for plant supplies and materials where required

d. Conveys material to and from storage as directed by utilizing general equipment such as hand trucks, pallet jacks, and forklifts following all safety rules

e. Orders and stocks supplies for daily plant function as well as production related materials when required

f. Transports materials (including hazardous materials), parts, supplies and equipment as well as packing and shipping product throughout facility as required

g. Exhibits good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail when transporting materials

Acts as go to person when assistance with procedures, equipment or information is needed in absence of departmental leader when requested

Professionally interacts with internal customers, (i.e. Purchasing, Planning, or Manufacturing) and external suppliers to obtain supplies/materials in a cost effective manner to meet facility specifications and achieve day to day requirements

Provides training/cross-training in equipment and process operations as needed

Uses manufacturing computer system or other system to accurately prepare and record required data

Assists and/or performs in any and all areas as assigned

May work any and all shifts/days as required

Job Requirements:


High School diploma, GED or equivalent Experience:

Minimum of 3 years shipping or related experience

Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Maintains general level of understanding of technical product and process knowledge.

Exhibits strong interpersonal and organizational skills, great attention to detail as well as excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills

Must be able to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds

Job Description Lead a cross-functional team of Shipping, Distribution, Receiving, Mailroom and Stockroom specialists and manage all programs and processes for compliant at a National Laboratory. Responsibilities includes but not limited to negotiating transportation rates with the freight carriers, developing guidance for NREL staff to utilize when arranging for inbound or outbound transportation. Provide subject matter expertise for all Shipping & Receiving (S&R) system processes such as outbound hazardous material shipments domestic and international. Ensure the team and all processes and programs are performing in a compliant manner. Achieve all necessary goals and objectives of the S&R program with support of the S&R Manager and the resources of the Site Services Group. General * Ensure a performing, compliant, and efficient S&R program, including the effective use of an electronic data management system. Administer quality control program for the S&R function. * Assist organizational personnel by providing training, resolving problems, and answering questions pertaining to S&R programs. * Achieve, and maintain required Commercial Driver's License with Hazardous Materials Endorsement. * Promote standards and ensure team members and program performance are operating within prescribed standards. * In collaboration with the S&R Manager, perform all Tasks and Responsibilities outlined in annual performance workplan. * Develop annual performance workplans with team members reporting to the S&R Manager and ensure team members are effectively performing their individual Tasks and Responsibilities. * Conduct all expected performance management activities with team members including observation, feedback, documentation, corrective actions, and other needed actions to ensure group goals and objectives are performed in a compliant manner. * Serve as subject matter expert for NREL for audits or information requests from the DOE or DOT regarding hazardous materials stored or transported. * Review, interpret, and ensure compliance with DOE and DOT hazardous materials related regulatory requirements. Outcomes * Ensure all outcomes are achieved through organization of staff, actions, and resources. * Conduct investigations to ensure hazardous materials management facilities are operated in strict compliance with operating permits. * Create, review, and modify desk level procedures. * Organize, conduct, and document self-assessments on process outcomes. * Identify issues as necessary, create corrective actions and implement corrections when directed by line-manager. * Track trends, validate corrective actions and maintain standards. * Back-fill or support staff-members needing assistance in their functional areas. * Administer the compressed gas cylinder and LN2 dewar rental recharge program. Integration and Development * Effectively coordinate Shipping & Receiving operations with Property management team. * Collaborate within the organization to ensure the efficient operation of the S&R program. * Identify internal and trans-organizational opportunities for strategic improvement. * Lead initiatives that improve effectiveness and efficiency of the S&R program. * Participate in group and consensus level discussions concerning the S&R program. * Develop program level procedures and manage periodic changes. Leadership, Management and Training * Provide mentorship and coaching to team members on topics related to division. * Provide S&R program training to all levels of the organization. Develop training programs for personnel involved in hazardous materials management. . Basic Qualifications Prof III - Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience required. Or, Master's degree and three years of relevant experience required. Prof II - Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience required. Equivalent relevant experience may be substituted for education. . Additional Required Qualifications * Demonstrated success as team leader and process manager. Successful experience leading a team and ensuring standards and goals are accomplished. * Experience in Shipping & Receiving management or oversight role. * Experience with basic stockroom management. * Comfortable in fulfilling mentorship role for team staff while accepting mentorship and guidance from colleagues and leadership. * Excellent communication skills with staff as well as senior management level presentations. * History of translating procedures into effective actions and outcomes. * Strong teamwork ethic with preferred experience working in a large and diverse environment. * Skilled proficiency in Oracle computer applications. * Ability to use various computer software programs. Preferred Qualifications * Experience administering FedEx ship manager. * Experience processing hazardous materials for shipping according to 49 CFR Parts 100-185 * Experience with Pitney Bowes SendSuite program * Experience handling and dealing with custom broker queries. * Experience with management of stockroom supplies, precious metals, high-risk export control and international shipments. * Have developed and used key performance indicators to monitor and modulate group performance. .
