Ship Volunteer Program Specialist (Aging Commission)

Position Summary

The SHIP Volunteer Coordinator is primarily responsible for coordinating all of the volunteer program activities for the SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program) and SMP (State Medicare Patrol) volunteers.

Pay Grade: 48

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Minimum Qualifications

100% -

1.Three (3) years or more of progressively responsible experience in social services, volunteer services or closely related field; AND

2.Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business administration, healthcare administration, or related field; OR

3.An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.

4.PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities

1.Serves as primary contact for volunteers of the SHIP and SMP programs.

2.Works to build and maintain relationships with the volunteers of the SHIP and SMP programs.

3.Collaborates with AAAD (Area Agency on Aging & Disability) Volunteer Coordinator to recruit volunteers.

4.Trains, retains and recognizes volunteers for the SHIP and SMP programs.

5.Facilitates a volunteer recognition event annually.

6.Maintains volunteer reporting system and prepares reports as required.

7.Plans and participates in events (including health fairs) to inform the public about Medicare information, health benefits, consumer rights and protections in the district.

8.Travels regionally to senior centers, libraries, low-income senior housing complexes, health fairs, and volunteer fairs.

9.Provides education to ensure that Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers are able to make informed health coverage decisions and understand related rights and questions.

10. Assists in developing, printing and distributing literature and promotional materials for outreach and educational events, as well as for mail-outs.

11. Attends SHIP training events, conference calls, and webinars, as required.

12. Performs data entry, as necessary.

13. Serves as a backup to the SHIP MIPPA Program Coordinator.

14. Makes and returns calls from beneficiaries, as needed.

15. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

10. Ability to collect and analyze data.

11. Ability to drive the ADRC (Aging and Disability Resource Center) Van to community events.

Special Requirements

1.Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver's License or secure one upon date of employment.

2.Must have daily access to an operable automobile for daily use and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment.

3.Must pass the following background checks: FBI Criminal History records, Tennessee Felony Offender Registry, ICOTS and the National and Tennessee Sexual Offender Registry and Drug Offender Registry.
