Summary:

Nisga'a Tek is looking for a Technical Instructor to provide onsite support for the Maritime and Intermodal Training Department (MITD), of the US Army Transportation School (USATSCH) and the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC).

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide training in the operation of the ICODES software suite of tools, necessary system support functions, as well as planning, re-planning, cargo staging, and yard management practices. Provide redline changes to training guides and practical exercises that support the current ICODES Version Provide training for the pre-established 2-week resident ICODES Basic courses.

  • Train in the functional characteristics of the program through a series of lectures, demonstrations, written and practical exams. This course is designed to relate the business process of ship load planning techniques using the automated information system (ICODES). Provide training for the pre-established 2-week resident courses, Ship Loading and Stowage section of ICODES.

  • Train the mathematical principles and techniques of ship load planning.

  • The manual principles and techniques that are learned in the ship loading and stowage are then demonstrated and practiced using the ICODES automated system.

  • Collaborate with USATSCH, in providing technical expertise for the preparation of the new and/or updating ICODES Resident Course for generic system functions.

  • Provide practical knowledge in planning and managing cargo placement for rail and ship conveyances.

  • Provide on-site training at a Government facility at various locations throughout CONUS and OCONUS.

  • Coordinate with the US Government facilities regarding available training equipment as required.

  • Present concepts and system functions to students and how it all pertains to ship loading operations

Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge in HAZMAT transportation.

  • Solid understanding of the ship loading theory -Trim, and stability associated to stress, hogging and bending moments of the ship structure. Accessibility of stow areas through ramps, elevators, hatches, and doors.

  • Knowledge of Cranes, (mobile, fixed, and ships gear), Correct placement of cargo items in respect to fire lanes, no-stow areas, reserved stow areas, and inter-cargo spacing tolerances.

  • Accuracy of military cargo characteristics (e.g., dimensions, weight, type, and identification codes) relative to standard cargo libraries and associated reference tables.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, Teams).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or a GED.

  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience using the ICODES software program.

  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience loading a variety of vessels to include United States Navy ships (USNS), Army watercraft, and/or commercial carriers (vehicle, bulk and container).

  • Prior experience shall include but not limited to: Generation of "information-centric" visual representations of the load planning environment, using the ICODES program, in terms of ship and cargo characteristics for decision making purposes.

  • Placement and segregation requirements for hazardous cargo items and operational knowledge of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG), Code of Federal regulations (CFR 49).

  • Must be a US Citizen.
