Description
Position Title: Shift Supervisor
Reports To: Assistant Director
Location: NW, Washington, DC 20037
Hours: Varied; Required across all shifts daily (8am-4pm, 4pm-12am, 12am-8am); some overtime may be required.

Summary of Position: The Aston is a newly developed non-congregate shelter serving single adults and adult households without children experiencing homelessness in the District of Columbia. The Aston has the capacity to serve up to 190 residents with a variety of shelter bed environments, including medically vulnerable and medical respite beds, work beds, beds for seniors, ADA beds, and beds for couples and families with non-minor dependents. All residents of The Aston are matched through the Coordinated Assessment and Housing Placement (CAHP) system and are targeted to enter stable housing destinations within 3-6 months of program entry. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and service delivery of scheduled Residential Aides on each shift. The position will ensure that intake procedures and unit assignments are completed for new resident placements, required room inspections are complete, and all documentation is filed per shift. The Shift Supervisor will serve as the liaison to security, janitorial, and food services during their scheduled shift.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides shift supervision to assigned Residential Aides to ensure smooth execution of program responsibilities, support services, and operations.
Provides appropriate support and oversight of residents; supports and reinforces program policies and rules.
Provides an efficient and safe working environment for residents, employees, and visitors to The Aston.
Conducts and supports intake processes for newly assigned residents to The Aston; Explains program rules, rights, responsibilities, building procedures/schedule, and unit assignments.
Ensures a shift log is maintained to record all activities and information regarding scheduled shifts.
Provides de-escalation services to residents and contacts crisis services (MPD, Mobile Crisis, CRT, etc.) as necessary.
Serves as primary point-of-contact for security, janitorial, and food vendors during the shift.
Ensures appropriate noise levels within the building and enforces guidelines for quiet hours (overnight)
Ensures that all Residential Aides always remain awake and alert on shift.
Monitors and ensures the completion of required unit inspections on each shift; gathers and files documentation.
Reports and documents maintenance and building concerns to the Assistant Director
Ensures detailed completion and submission of all Unusual Incident Reports (UIR) or Critical Incident Reports (CIR) in the required timeframe during each shift.
Coordinates the delivery, distribution, storage, and disposal of meal deliveries.
Distributes residential supplies and support to residents as available (cleaning, hygiene, laundry, bedding, etc.).
Actively participate in case meetings, staff meetings, and supervisions.
Actively attend and participate in all required training per contract requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education/Experience Requirement
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Two (2) years of experience working in a residential or shelter setting is required.
Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
Prior relevant work experience in human or homeless services, psychiatric rehabilitation, additions, poverty, foster care, mental health, youth/young adults, communities strongly preferred.

The position will spend most of the time moving through the program site providing supportive services to residents and desk settings for required reporting. The position will be required to complete floor rounds across the shift and be responsive to resident, residential aide, and vendor questions/requests.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
The position will spend most of the time moving through the program site providing supportive services to residents and desk settings for required reporting. Employees must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time with repetitive motions and positions. Some lifting may be required (up to 20-25lbs).
Background Checks
The selected candidate will be required to complete and pass background checks specific to contract requirements that may include criminal history background check and fingerprinting, FBI Background Check, DC Metropolitan Police Background Check, State-of-Residence Police Background Check, DC Child Abuse Registry (CFSA), National Sex Offender Registry Check, Drug Panel and Alcohol Screening, Tuberculosis Test, and Driving Record check (for positions transporting participants), and confirmation of COVID-19 vaccination record.

Specific Requirements
The employee must have a valid government-issued ID and have reliable transportation to arrive at the worksite on time.

Compensation: The starting pay range is between $19.01 - $22.14 per hour. The starting salary is based on a step system. A candidate's starting pay determination is made based on meeting the basic position requirements, and current completed education, credentials, and work experience. Please Note: The step system is set and not open to pay negotiation.
