Provides proactive shift supervision at all times to ensure the plant is operating to maintain safety, environmental, and operational priorities at the optimum production level. Supervises 15-16 operators on shift, responsible for the safety and development of each employee, and the preservation of plant assets.
The Shift Supervisor has the responsibility to inform Environmental, Safety and plant leadership during upset conditions for appropriate communication to local, state, and federal authorities according to applicable laws.
Must have a good working knowledge of major plant equipment and processes
Be able to assess situations quickly and lead others.
Minimum of three years experience in EDNF plant operations, or five years experience in outside related plant operations.
Good computer skills, including MS Office, Maximo, Konfig, TrainingMine, etc.
Fluent in English, oral and written required.
Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to provide clear and direct instructions.
Ability to work with people, good listening skills and problem solving skills.
Previous supervisory / leadership role preferred.
Hold daily shift safety tool box talks.
Ensure that facility is operating safely and efficiently.
Ensure operators in all areas are performing their required tasks in compliance with company and regulatory requirements for safety, environmental, and QA policies.
Active participation and support of plant safety programs and policies.
Ensure products are loaded safely and accurately, in accordance with all DOT and QA regulations.
Schedule overtime for job vacancies.
Provide oversight & active support of operator training.
Routine review of operators on their areas of responsibility.
Support Unit Coordinators on special requests and projects.
Work with EHSS to ensure compliance with safety initiatives and requirements.
Regular auditing to ensure that operators safely prepare equipment for service / repair.
Review of payroll timecards in ADP, providing comments for all exceptions.
Based on collaboration, active investigation and troubleshooting, make sound decisions on plant operation.
Assist operators when needed during episodes of plant upsets.
Evaluate, with input from operators, any equipment problems that affect the operation of the plant. Determine when emergency maintenance is required and callout the appropriate crafts.
Safe plant operations is priority. The development and mentoring of direct reports is key in accomplishing this main job function.
