We are currently recruiting for Nurse Supervisor I for the Child & Adolescent Unit (CAU) at Central Regional Hospital (CRH). This is a full-time position, normal work hours are 2nd shift Monday-Friday, 3:00pm

  • 11:30pm. The Child & Adolescent Unit (CAU) serve two age groups:

    Latency ages 5 -11, Adolescent ages 12 - 17. Both age groups have co-ed patient care units. Many of the patients have history of trauma, neglect and in need of home placement.

    Other presentations: IDD, ADHD, PTSD, depression, psychosis, conduct disorder, school failure, poor social skills, and delayed language.

CAU's behavior system supports positive alternatives to aggression and provides rewards with positive reinforcers and does not include punishment. CAU's philosophy is "kids do well if they can" and focuses on identifying the child's 'lagging skills' then helping the child develop the skills needed to be successful in the community.

This position provides psychiatric mental-health care, systematically evaluates compliance with all laws and regulations; ensuring continuity and consistency is maintained and direct supervision to other licensed and non-licensed staff. All duties are performed under the general supervision of the Unit Nurse Director and have general administrative duties for CAU such as planning, organizing, and managing daily operations, quality assurance, Human Resource Management functions, and training.

Critical Thinking: ability to implement the nursing process to meet patient needs as it relates to patient care, staff assignment, and the commitment process.

Client/Customer Service: Ability to lead employees by demonstrating a professional, caring approach, by listening being acceptable and lead by example towards the common goals and objectives of GSU/MPU. Ability to coordinate, collaborate, and communicate building a working relationship with internal and external customers.

This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits package.  Normal work hours are 2nd shift Monday-Friday, 3:00pm

  • 11:30pm, (and as needed to ensure supervisory requirement).  Flexibility is required to meet hospital needs.  This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

  • Ability to direct and carry out prescribed medical treatments and therapeutic programs

  • Ability to advise and counsel employees on job performance and conduct

  • Ability to actively seek to coach and mentor staff

  • Ability to prepare and maintain reports of activities and patient progress

  • Ability to identify and address quality monitoring and performance improvement issues for a unit

Management Preferences:

Previous supervisory experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements will be discussed with the applicant during the interview process, but will include the ability to pass CPR, protective interventions (NVCI), and lifting up to 50 pounds.        Some state job postings say you can qualify by an "equivalent combination of education and experience." Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of nursing experience.

Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.

Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus (effective 10/18/21)

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);

(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;

(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
