The Shift Manager
Provide end to end supervision and technical leadership necessary to execute plant operational strategies, in a complex food manufacturing facility, and realize site goals as they relate to safety, quality, reliability, cost and people.
Accountable for the management of safety and daily departmental performance against site metrics. Manages line efficiencies, key performance indicators and down time.
Develop talent through performance feedback, coaching, delegation and empowerment.
Conducts regular team meetings which includes effective communication of organizational and policy changes.
Support the introduction, development and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes across the site; and leverage continuous improvement tools and effective communication to coach employees to solve problems and eliminate defects.
Track departmental budgets and as applicable take appropriate actions to ensure that departmental budget goals are achieved.
Demonstrates high level of problem solving for manufacturing issues, employee issues, capital improvements, and overall business improvements. Mentors supervisors toward excellent managerial skills and development. Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines and equipment.
Ensures equipment is in working order and that working conditions are safe at all times. Ensures readiness of the production line at start-up and supervisor change overs.
Responsible for ensuring that required documentation and/or system transactions are executed for plant safety, food safety, manufacturing and financial reporting requirements. Run final production numbers from the MRP system.
Complete all relevant administrative paperwork (such as incident reports or disciplinary actions).
Staff, train, evaluate and develop team members.
Work and/or attend meetings during other shifts (including weekends) as necessary.
Must be willing to rotate to all three shifts.
Approximately fifty percent of the Shift Manager position should be spent on the manufacturing floor.
Collaborate with Director of Operations and other Shift Managers to lead and refine DDS.
Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities
Excellent communication skills, both orally and written.
Excellent listening skills. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, and asking questions as appropriate.
Able to multi-task.
Basic knowledge of interviewing techniques.
Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work and ability to identify the best people for the job.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and timekeeping systems such as Kronos.
The ideal candidate will have a management style of being involved, helping employees, coaching and developing, having good follow-through, and being engaging.
Bachelor's degree in business, management, engineering, food science or related disciplines
5+ years of managerial experience in a food manufacturing environment
5+ years experience providing leadership to a diverse workforce
Ability to provide leadership through strong decision making skills as well as leadership in facilitating groups for completion of goals.
