Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships The Patient Services Supervisor interacts with all UMC departments that provide patient meal services, including ancillary departments such as the Emergency Center and Out Patient Surgery. The Patient Services Supervisor maintains frequent communication with nursing staff and unit clerk staff.

Job Description The Patient Services Supervisor is responsible for a variety of specialized duties related to the receipt, interpretation, and follow through of patient diet orders. The Patient Services Supervisor, following established policies and procedures, directs the activities of the Host/ Hostesses and Food Service Aides to ensure adequate tray preparation for patients, proper sanitation in tray preparation area and in the dish room, and maintains cleanliness of all foodservice areas. The Patient Services Supervisor participates in the hiring, supervising, disciplining, and termination of employees.
In the absence of other supervisory personnel, the position supervises the activities in production and cafeteria as well as other related duties as assigned. Required Licensures / Certifications / Registrations Certified Dietary Manager preferred but not required. Physical Capabilities Position requires extensive walking, lifting, standing, and pushing of food carts.
Due to the nature of hospital services, it may become necessary to require extended hours or other variations of the usual shift to ensure adequate care of patients and maintain services to the community. A high energy level is needed as this position requires frequent movement. Skills and Abilities Previous hospital food service experience desirable.
Knowledge of diet modifications preferred. Requires management and leadership skills in addition to good interpersonal skills, good planning and organization skills. Must have the ability to read and interpret procedural documents, and write routine reports and correspondence using prescribed format, and conform to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.
