The Welder / Fabricator operates fabricating machinery, welding equipment and uses tools that cut, shape and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures. As part of the Sheet Metal Shop, this individual creates sheet metal duct, components, and structures used for mechanical HVAC jobs. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about standard sheet metal fabrication tools and has experience welding thin gauge metal.
Requirements+
Operates both welding and fabrication equipment to create quality sheet metal parts and structures.
Utilizes both manual and computerized equipment and tools to cut, bend, weld, or straighten sheet metal. For computerized equipment, routinely observes equipment to confirm machine efficiency.
Forms and knocks out sheet metal to fill orders from the field following cut sheets.
Reads blueprints and job specifications, takes measurements, plans layouts, and determines best equipment and method to complete the required task.
For welding tasks, sets up components for welding according to specifications, cuts materials to match measurements, operates angle grinders to prepare components, aligns components, welds the pieces, and performs quality inspection on each weld.
Polishes seams, joints and rough surfaces prior to final inspection and wraps finished components for delivery to construction sites.
As part of the Shop, responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
Ensures assigned tools and equipment are properly maintained following preventive maintenance guidelines. Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or workpieces.
Wears the necessary safety Personal Protective Equipment for each job task including welding, cutting, and burning work.
Follows all safety rules and procedures, understands and utilizes SDS sheets.
Performs other duties as assigned. These duties may include backing up shipping and receiving function, installing sheet metal duct in the field, and/or operating a forklift following the appropriate training.
Qualifications:
AWS Certified Welder with 2+ years of welding and fabrication experience.
High school diploma or GED diploma required, and or equivalent combination of education and experience.
OSHA 10 certification is a plus, and/or the ability to complete the certification within 14 days from the hire date.
Valid driver's license and ability to pass a background check, motor vehicle check, and a post offer, preemployment physical.
Ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders, work independently, learn technical tasks, be part of a team, solve problems, safely operate hand tools, and complete assigned tasks with quality.
Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as required, typically this position works Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and stoop.
Regularly lifting or moving items up to 75 pounds.
Occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds.
Exposed to extreme temperatures when working outside.
Regularly required to talk and hear.
Able to demonstrate vision abilities required for this job, which includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
