The University of Virginia's Capitol Construction and Renovations (CCR) team, within Facilities Management (FM) has an exciting opportunity for a Sheet Metal Technician. CCR supports FM's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, and reliable electrical construction and maintenance to the University community.
Sheet Metal Technicians perform layouts, fabrication, installation, and insulation of ductwork systems. Other responsibilities consist of performing preventative maintenance, responding to service calls, and completing miscellaneous assigned duties from supervisor. Sheet Metal Technicians receive project assignments and technical guidance from their supervisors.
Responsibilities:
Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair ducts, control boxes, drainpipes, furnace casings, and similar metal products as related to a job.
Read and interpret drawings and sketches from different departments.
May set up and operate machines to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal; shape metal over anvils, blocks, or form using a hammer.
Operate soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts; and inspect, assemble, and smooth seams and joints of burred surfaces.
Work on a team to execute repairs or installations.
Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, according to OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the supervisor, such as setup for special events, and snow and ice removal.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Four years of relevant experience
Selected candidates will be required to complete all required background checks and health screens prior to the first day of employment.
Compensation:
The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $21.00 - $27.00 per hour ($43,680 - $56,160 per year). This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:
Employee will be required to lift various weights, climb ladders and stairs in order to complete jobs. The use of both hands and a repetitive motion will be required while performing duties.
