There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Sheet Metal Mechanic without more than normal supervision to include duties such as forming single and double hem edges or single and double seams on circular, square, or rectangular articles; using shop equipment such as hand and power brakes and shears and punch presses; and performing body work using filler to patch dents or holes.

Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (includes constructing repair, and forging)
Layout and Pattern Development (includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation)

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires prolonged periods of continuous exertion when bending and shaping complex or bulky sheet metal products.

Also requires extended periods of standing and walking, climbing, working in cramped and awkward positions, and reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and power tools. Weight lifted or physical force exerted to form sheet metal may occasionally exceed 50 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed in well lighted, heated, and ventilated shop areas.

Some outside work is performed usually in periods of good weather. Subject to cuts, bruises, falls and burns. Appropriate safety equipment such as hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves, safety goggles, respirators, etc., are required.

Repairs flight control surfaces, engine cowling and performs fuel cell/tank maintenance. * Performs organizational, intermediate and depot level structural modifications and repairs using engineering drawings, safety procedures, military specifications, standards and maintenance manuals in performance of assigned tasks. * Documents work performed on aircraft forms, records and Contract Field Team workbooks. Working Conditions: * May be required to work in areas that are noisy, dusty, and dirty. * May be exposed to moderate discomforts such as heat, cold, and wind. * This position requires normal physical functions. * Work may require frequent bending, reaching and climbing. * Work may be performed on top or under equipment in cramped or awkward positions. * May frequently lift and carry items weighing up to fifth (50) pounds and occasionally lift heavier items with the assistance of other workers. * Will be required to comply with safety requirements of the Standard Operating Procedures Manual. * May be required to war personal protective equipment, where applicable.
