The primary purpose of this position is to fabricate one-of a-kind mechanical parts and components to facilitate research and development programs for prototype munitions, aircraft and/or components and test evaluating equipment.

Plan and lay out one-of-a-kind parts and components used for Research and Development of aerodynamic models, rocket sleds, aero-ballistic projectile and aircraft test components used for hypersonic test track evaluation.
Use and maintain tools and equipment.
Conduct or receive training to/from Sheet Metal Technicians and other tradesmen on equipment, project processes to maintain technical requirement, safety and timeline constraints of assigned projects.
Maintain, monitor and correct Air Force programs and resources IAW Air Force guidelines.

The work will require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver?s license.
Will be required to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance to perform work in sensitive areas.
Position requires working on or around munitions to include solid fuel rocket motors, warheads and egress components.
May perform welding duties, if qualified.

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. WG-3800 Metal Work Family.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3800 Metal Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires prolonged standing, climbing up and down ladders and scaffolding, working in cramped and awkward positions while installing items, stooping, bending, and reaching while using hand and power tools. Frequently handles, lifts, and carries objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lifts and moves heavier items with assistance. NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside and outside in areas that are usually hot, dusty, noisy and dirty, and where there is constant danger to the skin and eyes from flying metal chips and abrasive particles; skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds; and danger to fingers, hands, and other body parts from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating pieces, and moving parts of machines. Required to wear appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment at all times.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS PERTAINING TO THIS POSITION ARE: At least 5 years' experience at the journeyman level to the Sheet Metal/Industrial Sheet Metal Trade and experience in programming and operation of Computer Numerical Controlled Machines and Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing Software is desired.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
