This role installs and builds sheet metal duct and components at commercial and construction sites. The ideal candidate thrives on the building process from reading schematics through to building sheet metal products to support mechanical HVAC systems. A typical day might include - taking measurements for future work, laying out preassembled duct components, teaching others a new skill, and working independently to install duct components. This role maybe a Sheet Metal Foreman for routine job assignments.

Requirements+

  • Consults and interprets blueprints, drawings, and job specifications related to building and mechanical systems.

  • Takes measurements, orders sheet metal duct components from the Fabrication Shop team and works with Sheet Metal Installers III or Sheet Metal Foremen to source additional materials to complete the job.

  • Leverages knowledge of building codes and industry standards, to install duct using hand tools, cutting equipment, and appropriate safety equipment.

  • Runs assigned jobs with support from leadership, ensures materials, equipment, tools, and labor are sufficient to complete the assigned job. May assist with forecasting future needs for the job.

  • Responsible for installing sheet metal duct, which includes the detailed tasks of:

  • Laying out and hanging fasteners.

  • Cutting, bending, and straightening sheet metal.

  • Shaping sheet metal or spiral pipe using appropriate equipment.

  • Connecting pieces of duct or seams by riveting, rolling, soldering, or using steel screws.

  • Inspecting, assembling, smoothing seams, and joints of uneven surfaces.

  • Coordinates required shutdowns and startups of equipment with other departments.

  • Maintains relevant documentation for each job.

  • Follows safety policies and wears the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for each job task.

  • Plans their work for the day, routinely communicates with leadership, and shares knowledge with others at the work site.

  • Ensures assigned tools and equipment are properly maintained following preventive maintenance guidelines.

  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED diploma and 3+ years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Working knowledge of construction tools associated with HVAC and Plumbing trades.

  • OSHA 10 certification is a plus, and/or the ability to complete the certification within 14 days from the hire date.

  • Valid driver's license required and able to travel to VT, NY, NH, and Canada.

  • Must be reliable, organized, and able to work in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Ability to complete sheet metal projects with accuracy and precision.

  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics to understand product assignment.

  • Ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders, work independently, learn technical tasks, be part of a team, solve problems, safely operate hand tools, and complete assigned tasks with quality.

  • Have and own personal hand tools required for sheet metal trade.

  • Ability to work flexible hours and overtime as required, typically this position works Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Ability to frequently lift minimum of 75 pounds and stand throughout shift.

  • Ability to occasionally carry, lift, and hold up to 100 pounds.

  • Ability to frequently climb up and down and work at height. This includes climbing multiple flights of stairs, ladders (6ft to 14ft), and working from extension ladders.

  • Some repetitive motion required.

  • The typical work environment is a construction site setting.
