Description

YWCA Dayton, a 24 hours organization dedicated to the elimination of racism and the empowerment of women, seeks an energetic, dedicated person to be an integral part of our team. The Sexual Violence Survivor Advocate is a Non-Exempt level position working 40 hours weekly with some evenings and weekend activities. The Sexual Violence Survivor Advocate is responsible for providing professional knowledge of evidenced based concepts, principles, procedures and practices for survivors of sexual violence. This person supports the vision, mission, and values of YWCA Dayton.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Sexual Violence Survivor Advocate develops methods, approaches, and procedures to meet program requirements and survivors' needs; is responsible for crisis intervention, assessment and implementation of services for sexual violence survivors; oversees advocacy and case management of sexual violence cases, assign cases, and works closely with supervisor to assure appropriate services to clients; provides client support and advocacy through the medical, judicial and criminal justice processes; responsible for referring individuals to appropriate community resources for additional assistance and counseling; offering State of Ohio resources to assist survivors in navigating processes; such as Ohio VINE and Ohio Victims of Crime Compensation; assist with support groups, HelpRooms and psycho educational classes for sexual violence survivors; coordinates scheduling of requested Sexual Assault Nurse Examinations (SANE) from community partners, survivor, medical team staff, etc.; attends SANE exams and provides support throughout duration of exam as needed; act as a YWCA Dayton liaison and collaborate with law enforcement and community organizations to meet survivor needs; maintain and review required documentation and data collection; follow state and federal laws on survivor confidentiality; monitor and update Advocacy training course as needed for staff (OAESV Compliance); collect needed service statistics for grant reports; performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

SKILLS &

COMPETENCIES:

  • Effective Communication: High-level written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to relate to diverse groups and stakeholders; strong interpersonal savviness with strong moral and ethical values towards the mission of the organization with ability to show empathy and compassion.

  • Mission Understanding: Demonstrated ability to drive vision and purpose with an understanding and commitment to YWCA USA and YWCA Dayton's mission, vision, history, and programs, demonstrated core values; demonstrated emotional intelligence with strong organizational skills.

  • Business Acumen: Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of domestic violence, homelessness and interventions in residential settings; demonstrated ability to handle emergent situations.

EDUCATION &

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 4 years social work, human services, mental health, counseling, psychology; one year of crisis intervention, domestic violence or related human service experience; Bachelor's Degree in these or related; LSW/LPC preferred; 6 plus years social work, counseling, psychology, mental health, crisis intervention, human services experience in lieu of degree.

This position is in house only Monday

  • Friday (occasional evening and weekends may be required) and not remote at this time. YWCA Dayton operates 24/7 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts, standard operation hours are 8:00am

  • 5:00pm. All employment is decided on the basis of competencies, qualifications, merit and business need.
