The City of Everett Public Works is currently accepting applications for a seasonal Sewer/Drainage day laborer (This employment is temporary, up to six month position). It is mandatory that the employee in this position contribute to the Washington State Public Employee Retirement System. This contribution is refundable upon the employees request at the completion of employment. A work permit fee of $12.00 per pay period must also be paid to AFSCME Local 113. This position is not provided with City of Everett benefits.
NATURE OF WORK
This position begins by May/June and works in the Sewer/Drainage work group. The daily tasks are varied and included technical work, physical work, interaction with the public, environmental work, inspections of sewer/drainage systems, and use of pesticides. Work will mostly be performed with a staff member but occasional independent work may be assigned. Work is mostly outside.
WORK SCHEDULE
This position is up to 40 hours per week.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Inspection of city catch basins and backwater valves
Assist in surveying / inspections of storm water facilities
Vegetation clearing around storm water facilities
Assist with pesticide applications for weeds and mosquito control
Office tasks including data entry
Weeding, pruning, planting, removal of vegetation
Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of storm water systems and environmental studies a plus
Knowledge of weeds, plants, and vegetation maintenance helpful
Ability to use line trimmers, back pack blowers, pole camera, and other small equipment
Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to drive pickups and 1 ton trucks
Ability to apply pesticides with backpack sprayer working with licensed staff
Willingness to work in inclement weather, difficult terrain, and high traffic areas
Ability to work well with the public and staff
Ability to work safely, use safety equipment, and operate vehicles safely
Office equipment and computer experience
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
Possession of, or be able to obtain prior to appointment, a valid Washington State Driver's License.
Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Flagging Card (City provided training class available).
Prior to employment, must submit a motor vehicle driving record abstract.
