About Seton College:

Seton College is a new two-year college division of UMSV that will offer an associate’s degree for 100 students that have been historically underserved, who may require additional academic support, and who are motivated for post-secondary success annually beginning in the 2024–25 academic year. The program’s goal is to prepare students to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program or to begin their professional careers. Seton College students will study on the Riverdale Campus of UMSV and have full access to UMSV’s facilities and programs.

This position provides therapeutic counseling and case management services to students within Seton College, the Associate’s Degree division of the University of Mount Saint Vincent. This position also works collaboratively with faculty and staff to provide appropriate information and programming re: mental health and wellness for students. The social worker reports to the Associate Dean for Student Engagement and Success but receives clinical supervision from the counseling department of the university and participates in university-wide mental health team meetings.

Responsibilities:

• Provides short and long-term therapy to students enrolled in Seton College.
• Provides, as available, short and long-term support to families and parents of students.
• Provides psycho-social assessment and diagnosis of behavioral and clinical impairments, with recommendations and/or environmental manipulations at the school, home and/or in the community with periodic re-evaluations.
• Participates in case conferences involving cooperation with other student personnel workers, school personnel and community agencies.
• In collaboration with other staff at Seton College, creates and implements programming related to mental health and wellness.
• Supports major programming initiatives within Seton College, including the summer orientation program and the wellness Fair.
• Has knowledge of and makes referrals to public or private social service, community, and government agencies; engages appropriate follow-up when referrals are made.
• Serves as a liaison between school, family and community resources.
• Maintains appropriate school records and provides written reports and communications.
• Participates as a resource person in in-service training and planning.
• Acts as a consultant to resolve problems concerning behavioral and clinical factors that influence academic performance.
• Participates in educational planning processes.
• In collaboration with staff and faculty, the Social Worker will respond to immediate student needs as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or related field, with demonstrated experience in mental health and/or other outreach work required. Supervised experience with a college or young adult population preferred.
• Possession of a valid state credential authorizing clinical social work services.
• Evidence in-depth knowledge of special education programs, with in-depth experience working with individuals with exceptional needs.
• Experience in crisis intervention preferred.
• Experience building relationships with external/community partners preferred.
• Verbal and written communications skills in English and Spanish preferred.
