Job Responsibilities

  • Is responsible to perform the following according to Good Samaritan mission, location standards and procedures

  • Accountable that medications and treatments are administered to assigned clients. Assesses client to establish client plan of care.

  • Re-evaluates plan of care to determine client is still eligible for services.

  • Provides care in accordance with agency policy; local, state and federal laws and plan of care.

  • Delegates nursing tasks to unlicensed staff in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act.

  • Responsible for overall management of medications, including setup of medications or delegating the administration of medications following State specific rules and providing clinical support regarding medication issues.

  • Supervises, provides training and evaluates caregivers in accordance with agency policy; local, state, and federal laws.

  • Safeguards clients' property.

  • Maintains clients' self-esteem, privacy and confidentiality of personal information. Complies with HIPAA guidelines.

  • Provides clients with opportunities for independence and choice consistent with their care plans.

  • Accountable that physicians' orders are processed and physicians notified in a timely manner.

  • Directs and documents care provided to clients.

  • Receives and shares information; observes and reports clients' conditions to appropriate staff.

  • Explains procedures before and during care.

  • Directs and assists with client, family / significant other education.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with at least one year of nursing experience. Prior experience in like or related position preferred. Licensure for state of practice is required. Current CPR certification or ability to become certified in CPR within 60 days of hire.

Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have a favorable motor vehicle record (MVR) and must present a valid driver's license and proof of insurance before operating a vehicle.

Basic ability to communicate and comprehend; ability to measure and comprehend certain quantities; knowledge of basic nursing skills; knowledge and familiarity with the therapeutic effects and side effects of all medications administered.

Responsibilities Clinical Excellence/Patient Care * Assesses the needs of patients and families, providing appropriate teaching and making the necessary referrals to provide continuity of care. * Develops an individual plan of care using a collaborative approach with the patient/family and health care team. * Promptly completes documentation to assure an accurate legal record of patient's care. * Delivers high quality care utilizing the nursing process while demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills of the specialty required on assigned unit in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care. * Utilizes holistic approach (considering biopsychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients and families served in the assigned service area. * Delegates and provides direction for other healthcare providers and hold them accountable for their involvement in the plan of care. * Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments, and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients. Development & Patient Education * Continues professional development and involvement in professional activities that enhance nursing practice by sharing knowledge through networking and research. * Assesses and chooses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient's and their families' age specific needs, culture, gender, readiness to learn and level of comprehension. * Consults appropriate resources within the hospital to provide specialized education. * Demonstrates knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately. Basic UPH Performance Criteria * Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines. * Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance. * Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position. * Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, JCAHO, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare. * Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year. * Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance. Qualifications Must be a graduate of accredited School of Nursing. Previous acute care experience preferred. Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in the State of Illinois. Must maintain current CPR Certification. Knowledge of the nursing care required for patients throughout the age continuum, ability to use the nursing process, knowledge of teaching/learning theories. ability to critically think, problem solve; plan, organize, and coordinate patient care activities, and ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing .
