Assist the Service Manager with the overall operation of the service department, including supervising mechanics, job scheduling, maintaining OSHA (safety) compliance, quality workmanship, good housekeeping, and labor productivity.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the Service Manager:
In the scheduling and pre-planning of shop work.
Review new work orders for parts required and parts available.
Keep Service Manager apprised of tool repair and replacement requirements for the department.
Maintain high standards for good housekeeping in shop and yard areas.
Ensure that service vehicles are properly maintained.
Supervise, train, instruct, and evaluate mechanics:
Ensure that all personnel maintain a high level of awareness of safety requirements and compliance of OSHA regulations.
Assign mechanics to jobs according to their ability to perform work operations.
Assign the number of mechanics to perform the job most efficiently.
Discuss safety and plan job with mechanics if necessary.
Make estimates of repair or assist in making estimates as required.
Follow up on jobs in process to ensure that:
The job is being performed in the most efficient manner.
Proper tools, equipment and parts are being used.
Quality of workmanship meets required standards.
Job is completed as specified within allotted time.
Ensure that "Plus" service inspections are made on all units.
Other duties as assigned by Service Manager.
Prior experience supervising mechanics preferred.
Knowledge of service repair procedures and paperwork
Prior scheduling experience.
Prior experience as mechanic or mechanical knowledge of trailer repair preferred.
Daily communication with employees from all management levels by telephone and in person.
Weekly communication with outside vendors and customers.
