We're looking for knowledgeable, hands-on Service & Repair Technician to work in our collaborative Lake Forest Service center. In this position, you will be primarily responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating fixed gas and flame detection units as well as moderately complex electronic components. You will also be responsible for maintaining repair records, and will interface with customer service and with the customer directly. As a technician, you will follow all procedures set forth to ensure the highest quality products possible, and you must complete all assigned repairs in an efficient and timely manner. Repair, modify, calibrate, adjust, and troubleshoot moderately complex instruments returned by customer to MSA factory specifications for current and obsolete products.
Complete/produce timely and detailed service repair worksheet, evaluation report and service quotes and enter repair information into ERP system, SAP.
Prepare a variety of written materials (blue tags, red tags, defective tags, rework and stock requisition forms, etc.) for providing written support and/or conveying information.
Update Service Notification folder and in SAP as needed and communicate updates with coordinators.
Create and update Customer Quality Notification (CQN) information in SAP at the end of repairs.
Assist coordinators with generating Service Notifications and with receiving and shipping duties as needed.
Provide technical support as needed.
Attend Key Performance Indicator (KPI) meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information.
Perform offsite service calls as necessary, requiring minimal travel national and international.
Knowledge, Skillys & Abilities:
Excellent spoken and written English skills.
Proficient in Microsoft applications such as Outlook, Excel and Word.
Detail-oriented in order to prepare, assemble, and troubleshoot circuit board components and keep detailed, organized records of repair work performed.
Ability to regularly perform work that requires magnification and distinguish among different color coatings on wires.
Demonstrate proficiency in soldering.
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, schematics, work instructions, and test procedures.
Solid ability to perform test and repairs following technical manuals and diagnostic procedures.
Ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and repair electronic instruments devices, sometimes remotely over the phone.
Ability to understand standard units of measure and to set-up and interpret results of various measuring devices.
Ability to perform standard software operations in ERP system and diagnostic software.
Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds without assistance.
Strong ability to use power and hand tools, and custom tooling.
Solid manual dexterity for use of tools and performing work on small components, requiring fine finger manipulation and hand steadiness.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
Ability to work in a team environment and effectively communicate with various levels of the organization, including new associates and temporary workers, and customers.
Ability to handle/maintain various types of gas cylinders and regulators.
Educational Requirements and Work Experience:
Associates Degree in electronics or electronic technology.
In lieu of associate's degree 3 years past working experience working with electronic instrumentation with a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in electronic repair, training capacity, manufacturing or other related experience.
At least 3 years of soldering experience.
Experience with SAP.
Experience in a service & repair related field.
