Service Center Operator

Location: Richmond, VA

Countryway Insurance, a Virginia Farm Bureau Company, is seeking a Service Center Operator to join our Underwriting & Policy Services Department, in Richmond, Virginia. This position will handle telephone inquiries and requests from our insureds, agents and other business units as well as processing insurance policy changes.

Primary Duties

  • Respond to telephone inquiries and requests with a high level of customer service

  • Interpret and evaluate completeness of data provided by underwriters, agents, etc. for policy issuance.

  • Enter premium transactions associated with statistical data into computer system.

  • Make basic underwriting decisions based on manual rules.

  • Revise policy information as requested by policyholders and follow through on requests forwarded for agent or underwriting approval.

  • Maintain performance within acceptable Service Center quality standards


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Good data entry, basic math and problem solving skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail and time management

  • Team oriented

  • Ability to handle telephones independently

  • Minimum 1 years insurance processing experience

  • High school degree

  • Must Obtain P & C license within 3 months of hire

The Service Center Human Resources Coordinator will serve as the primary coordinator for the Chemistry and Forensic Science departments. This position will proactively support the departments on all personnel matters related to faculty, staff, hourly employees, student workers, work study employees, post docs and graduate teaching assistants. This position will advise department chairs, faculty, and other managers on university and state policies related to human resources administration. Responsibilities also include collecting, maintaining and analyzing data and preparation of complex and detailed reports of departmental and program activities for the Chemistry Department. Serves as the record retention coordinator. This position reports to the Service Center Manager.
