Overview

Service Center Managers are responsible for the organization, staffing, enforcement and accomplishment of all Service Center activities in an efficient and economical manner consistent with Corporate's objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and measures Service Center performance to identify opportunities or problem areas and develop solutions

  • Maintains excellent communication with external and internal customers

  • Analyzes revenue statistics

  • Identifies sales opportunities and develops customer solutions

  • Keeps fully informed of competitor developments

  • Recruits, qualifies, interviews, hires, trains and develops Service Center personnel

  • Develops sales/marketing action plans to maximize territory revenue

  • Investigates, reports and initiates corrective actions for accidents, job related injuries and employee discrepancies

  • Understands and complies with Dayton Freight's safety practices including DOT, EPA, ICC and OSHA rules and regulations

  • Evaluates all freight claims

  • Ensures that Service Center premises are protected and maintained

  • Facilitates informational meetings with Service Center team members

  • Effectively handles special assignments as directed

This will require collaboration with major business/infrastructure and/or development, integration and implementation projects across the enterprise. Applies systems solutions to business/technical problems through customer interactions, technical knowledge and training, and working with peers. Required to represent data center management for medium to complex implementations. JOB DUTIES: This position reports to an IT Manager, with responsibilities of the incumbents are across functional lines with individuals assigned development projects, and/or maintenance, of existing global co-location hosting sites, enterprise data centers and facility computer rooms. Knowledge of mainframe, personal computer, server, Local Area and Wide Area Network, WEB, and/or distributed computing systems and infrastructure is needed, as well as knowledge of HVAC, high power electricity, data center design and layout, and physical IT systems security. 1. Competent to perform all aspects of managing a data center or co-location space without close supervision; normally assigned the more complex aspects of systems work; 2. Acts as manager of data center maintenance and daily operations of the data center tech team. 3. Works directly on complex technical problem identification and resolution, including responding to off-shift and weekend support calls; 4. Works independently on complex infrastructure technology components that may be used by one or more applications or systems; 5. Deploys or integrates infrastructure technology components based on requirements gathered from customers; 6. Fully knowledgeable of the relevant technology requirements for managing data center space, power, and cooling. Able to develop original requirements for space based on infrastructure needs and project goals; can provide training on these topics for others; 7. Performs implementation and integration tasks for medium to large, complex developed solutions; 8. Assists customers with documentation, training and usability efforts. 9. Integrates processes across functional organizations. 10. Works with other third-party suppliers to supply directed manpower to manage Caterpillar's lights-out data centers; develop and support Caterpillar specific standards for co-location and facility computer rooms; contribute to the enterprise hosting strategy. Qualifications BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE: Requires a relevant degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience. The incumbent should be knowledgeable of the relevant technologies, and elements that provide space, power and cooling; basic knowledge of all distributed compute, network, data center appliance, and security hardware that will be located in a data center. Six to ten years in development and support work related to the infrastructure technology and management of an enterprise class data center. In addition, the incumbent should have a good knowledge of Caterpillar policies and procedures, and a general understanding of Caterpillar's organization.
