Providence is calling a Service Area Director- Radiation Oncology to Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR

We are seeking a Service Area Director that will provide leadership, strategic development, planning, and operational management direction for Regional Radiation Oncology Services to insure the efficient and effective delivery of inpatient and outpatient services. This includes locations at Providence Portland Medical Center (PPMC), Providence St Vincent Medical Center (PSVMC), Oncology, Clackamas Radiation Oncology Center (CROC) and the Gamma Knife Center of Oregon (GKCO). Plan, coordinate and supervise the technical and administrative functions in accordance with system policies and goals. Implements and promotes competitive radiation oncology and Gamma Knife for neuro-oncology services in the greater Portland area, and throughout the northwest region. Actively involved in the development and implementation of the regional Brachytherapy Program. This position will help to guide the implementation and operationalization of the MRLinac machine (Second on the West Coast).

In this position you will have the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the goals and objectives of Regional Radiation Oncology, Gamma Knife Center, Brachytherapy Program, and Clackamas Radiation Oncology Center in conjunction with the Executive Cancer Institute; obtaining input from Regional Radiation Oncology Manager, Medical Director, physicians, supervisors and staff

  • Develop an integrated process for preparing and implementing a strategic plan for assigned programs

  • Annually review and update short and long-range goals and strategic plans to reflect changing customer needs and strategic opportunities

  • Elicit feedback from employees, physicians, clients and patients regarding service satisfaction and implements appropriate action to effect change

  • Closely monitor results and revises strategies/goals as required

  • Prepare capital equipment budget and operating budgets for assigned programs and sites

  • Monitor operating statements to assure that budgetary goals are met; and significant deviations are adequately understood and appropriate action taken

  • Develop common service standards, objectives, goals, protocols, policies and procedures for all activities of assigned programs and sites

  • Obtain input from Regional Radiation Oncology Manager, Medical Directors, Radiation Oncology Leaders, physicians and staff

  • Ensure the provision of quality services by recruiting, selecting and developing qualified employees who will meet the qualitative, quantitative and mission related goals established for assigned programs

  • Provide positive and supportive work environment and leadership using the goals and objectives of the Providence St Joseph Health

  • Support enhancing employees' expertise to maintain/develop knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes which promote excellence, quality outcomes, and productive team-oriented performance

  • Promote and encourage positive team problem solving to empower employees to act effectively to cause change

  • Evaluate staff performance, objectives, standards, and personal development plans which support employee participation

  • Provide input to performance evaluations for growth and development of staff, if necessary, disciplining or discharging staff who fail to meet expected performance standards according to established policies

  • Maintain Regional Radiation Oncology, Gamma Knife Center, Brachytherapy Program, in a state of readiness for inspections by accrediting agencies such as the State of Oregon, CMS, the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and OSHA

  • Obtain input from Regional Radiation Oncology Manager, Medical Directors, Radiation Oncology Leaders, physicians and staff

  • Work collaboratively with the Medical Director(s) and Executive Director, Cancer Institute to develop and promote marketing strategies for Regional Radiation Oncology and Gamma Knife Center, services to physicians, other medical institutions and payers. Foster communication for the purposes of exploring opportunities to efficiently and effectively work together as well as expand our market presence in the region

  • Work collaboratively with Medical Director(s) and physicians to assure quality, timely, accessible and appropriate clinical services are provided to all patients/customers

  • Coordinate management and physician team to plan, organize and respond to identified needs and create opportunities for growth, development and improvement of services

  • Develop and implements quality assessment/quality improvement and evaluation tools which are customer focused to measure success and effectiveness of services

  • Meet regularly with the Medical Director(s) to review and evaluate service operations, relationships with the medical staff/referring physicians, coordination of services with various hospital programs/departments and to assure that the environment is conducive to the safe, high quality provision of radiation oncology and neuro-oncology services

  • Provide leadership to assigned programs and sites in a way that maximizes quality through the development and implementation of quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives; costs effectiveness through efficient and effective delivery of quality clinical services; and support the program and operational needs of the system through involvement and participation in program and service development in the Cancer Institute

  • Assure appropriate communication channels are intact and used by staff

  • Acts as a role model to staff through respectful collaboration with physicians, customers, staff, patients and other departments/offices/services

  • Represent services accurately and effectively when participating in system committees, work groups, and/or task forces

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Health care, business, economics -OR- related field.

  • Five (5) years management or administrative experience in health care, preferably in an integrated health system, preferably with increasing responsibility and experience in the supervision of clinical services and financial operations

Preferred qualifications for this position includes:

  • Master's Degree

  • Specific experience in directing radiation oncology clinical operations including oversight of budgets, coding, billing and payor relationships
