Job Summary:

The successful Server Assistant aids servers in the prompt delivery and removal of food and beverage items, is hospitable and cordial to guests and coworkers, acts safely and responsibly, and is knowledgeable about the vessel and the skyline.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide exceptional hospitality to guests and coworkers as prescribed in Our Service System (OSS)

  • Provide guests with water, coffee/tea, and bread service throughout the meal

  • Bus used and unneeded dishes and glassware from guests tables to galley

  • Scrape and stack dirty dishes, and carry dishes and other tableware to the galley for cleaning

  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of all common areas and service stations; clean up spilled food, drink and broken dishes, and remove empty bottles and trash

  • Set up and break down dining room and service stations as prescribed; this requires movement of dining cabin furniture

  • Provide information to guests including menu descriptions, order of service, entertainment options, cruise route and points of interest

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Be prepared to begin work at scheduled time

  • Maintain uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards

  • Assist with the warm and efficient greeting and seating of guests when they arrive

  • Other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor on duty

Accountabilities:

The successful Server Assistant will personally contribute to the unforgettable guest experience, be favorably viewed by supervisors and peers, and be swift and efficient in the execution of their assigned duties. Performance will be measured by guest and mystery shopper satisfaction surveys, departmental tests, management evaluation, and feedback from peers on the service team.

Job Specifications / qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Must meet minimum state age requirements

  • Previous restaurant experience preferred

  • Energetic and enthusiastic personality essential

  • Must be able to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information to guests and coworkers

  • Must possess a service orientation actively looking for ways to help others

  • Will work for extended periods of time without sitting

  • Required to lift furniture and other heavy items such as bus tubs up and down stairs

  • Will be required to be available for work on all major holidays

  • Per US Coast Guard requirement, must be a US Citizen or a Permanent Resident

You are the saving grace of support staff and have an eye for the where assistance is needed. While ensuring each guest has water in their glass, you will also be there to save the day for the full-handed server in need. Summary of Key Responsibilities Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following: * Obtain service area assignment at the beginning of each shift * Promptly greet guests as they are seated and offer still, sparkling or ice water * Remove tableware between courses and provide tableware for next course * Clear tables after guests * Take soiled table ware to dish room and unload, sort and stack silverware, dishes, glassware, etc. in designated areas in the soiled dish drop off area * Between seating's, promptly clean table tops, chairs and booths. Check floor and clean as required. Reset and arrange tabletop. * Inspect assigned restroom every 30 minutes and clean as needed * Respond appropriately to guest requests. Communicate guest requests to server as needed. * Communicate with server and hostess to assure efficient seating, table utilization and customer service. * Assist server as needed with food delivery, especially with large parties and during peak periods. * Thank guests as they are leaving * Responsible for reporting all cash and credit card gratuities received to comply with the IRS standards of reporting income * Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor Requirements Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * At least one year of experience is preferred, but will still be considered without * Be 18 years of age or older * Must be able to communicate clearly with managers, employees and all guests. * Have working knowledge of beer, wine and liquor and common drink recipes * Must be available to work days, nights, weekends and holidays * Understanding knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures * Ability to model and act in accordance with The Indigo Road guiding principles Physical Requirements: * Constant standing/walking * Occasional stooping, kneeling or crawling * Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying up to 50 lbs. * Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, ramps * Constant computer/POS Register usage * Frequent, continual, intermittent flexing or rotation of the wrist(s) and spine * Constant reaching, turning, and performing precision work around the bar area * Constant receiving detailed information through oral communication * Constant talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word Disclaimer: The above job description is not an exhaustive list of all of the duties and responsibilities of the position, nor should it be construed as a contract.
