The Server Administrator-Journeyman shall perform all duties pertaining to mission-specific Server Administration on Windows Server and Red Hat Linux platforms, and Desktop Administration on Windows 10/11 and Red Hat Linux platforms for GVSC G6 CIO/G6.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support in all areas of installation, configuration and setup, integration, testing, deployment, RMF tasks, complete documentation, and management of the Application Architecture's hardware and software, mission applications and/or systems, and any other software tools specified by the tenant organization Performance Certifier or his/her designated representative.

  • Under general supervision, responsible for support in all areas of installation, configuration and setup, integration, testing, deployment, RMF tasks, complete documentation, and management of the Application Architecture's hardware and software, mission applications and/or systems, and any other software tools specified by GVSC G6 government designated representative on a daily basis.

  • Provide system administration and operating system support for mission servers and workstations.

  • Performs software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.

  • Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. Perform security checklists on operating systems and system backups for each server and workstation.

  • Perform release management to include commercial software, standard software, beta, site license management, Certificate of Networthiness, and new system releases.

  • Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels.

  • Ensures workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions.

  • Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations.

  • Supports media management through internal methods and procedures or through offsite storage and retrieval services.

  • Develops and promotes standard operating procedures.

  • Maintain accountability for all Mission IT resources including software licenses.

  • Conducts routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.

  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive operating system hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation.

  • Ensures the reliability and performance of the application. Schedule installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for file maintenance, control, and product support and facilitates change control, problem management, and communication among architects, engineers, and analysts.

  • Develops appropriate application and process documentation. Prepare and deliver presentations and briefings as required.

  • Uses knowledge of Information Technology (IT) concepts, principles and methods to perform analysis and provide solutions to multiple IT problems.

  • Complete annual company and customer-required training, as required.

  • Complete timesheets daily in an online system according to company policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • 3+ years of experience in the field of study.

  • CompTIA Security+ CE Certification along with Microsoft Certified System Administrator (MCSA) Server 2016, Microsoft Windows 10 MCSA Certification or Microsoft Installing and Configuring Windows 10 Certification. required. Red Hat Linux Administration Certification is preferred.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Secret clearance is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS).

  • High level experience with servers from baseline build to all changes made, to include but not limited to software loading, application support, hardware failures, and scan results.

  • Ability to develop and maintain a comprehensive operating system hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation.

  • Ability to rely on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Ability to multi-task in a high-stress, performance-based environment.

  • Ability to establish priorities and meet established deadlines.

  • Ability to attend all customer in-person meetings and conferences as requested.

  • Ability to coordinate and integrate the work activities of several different projects at any one time.

  • Ability to communicate with others effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to review, analyze, and make recommendations regarding application and desktop software and hardware development.

  • Must have journeyman-level working knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software (Microsoft Office suite and Outlook).

  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft OS and common applications.

  • Must have a working knowledge of Linux OS.

  • Travel up to 10% as required.
