JOB TITLE:
Research Professional I (Geoscience Analyst)
JOB PURPOSE:
Work under the guidance of Senior Research Scientists at the Center for Economic Geology Research (CEGR), a Center of Excellence at the University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources, on applied research in geology, geophysics, statistics, engineering, and/or environmental sciences related to critical minerals and economic geology research. The Research Professional I will work within a team of geoscientists, and be expected to utilize standard geoscience laboratory practices to help advance applied energy and economic geology research programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Apply expertise working in a geochemistry or similar laboratory to assess geologic materials
Utilize scientific methods to analyze and integrate a variety of data pertaining to geologic resource analysis
Help to support and organize data collection, monitor and assess data quality, and ensure input and maintenance of relevant databases
Familiarity with analytical procedures and methods development within the context of geological materials characterization
Apply expertise to support research, data interpretation, and problem solving related to subsurface geologic characterization, critical mineral assessment, and other energy-related topics
Work closely with CEGR and School of Energy Resources staff, stakeholders, collaborators, and industry stakeholders on applied energy studies
Aid in the preparation scientific reports and publications
Work on funded projects that are advancing critical minerals research in the Rocky Mountain west
Utilize relevant software and research abilities to facilitate the highest quality output
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
Read, understand, and follow safety procedures
Develop and follow research methodologies and standard operating procedures
Develop and follow laboratory and safety protocols
Maintain laboratory workspace and regularly document state of laboratory facilities
Ensure functionality of instruments and support equipment
Accurately document work in progress
Interface with Senior Research Professionals to purchase consumables
Interface with Senior Research Professionals to effectively communicate the need for updates/improvements to facility including new instrumentation and support equipment
Design, organize, and coordinate scientific and/or engineering research projects
Use independent judgment to develop model concepts and approaches for advancing research
Draw conclusions and make recommendations based on research data and findings
Communicate clearly and concisely
Work as a team member and foster a cooperative work environmen
Draft technical scientific reports and publications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in geology, geophysics, engineering, or similar field (ABD accepted) or Bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics, engineering, or similar field and 2 years equivalent work experience
Troubleshooting experience with laboratory instrumentation and support equipment
Experience researching economic geology, specifically critical minerals
Experience with geochemical methods development and data analysis to better laboratory procedural practices, specifically equipment such as Ion Chromatography System, Thermogravimetric Analyzer, Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer, Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer, X-Ray Diffractometer, Scanning Electron Microscope, Ball Mill, Ashing Furnace, or Drying Ovens
Experience in data analytics and data science
Demonstrated exemplary writing and oral communication skills
