JOB TITLE:

Research Professional I - Techo-Economic Analysis Specialist

JOB PURPOSE:

Work under the guidance of SER Research Professional II or III, Program Manager, Center Director, Senior Director of Research on applied energy research to drive energy-related economic development for Wyoming.

Support H2ERC's Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA), perform general engineering work, and write/perform tasks within our awarded projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Undertake research based on energy-related subject matter expertise.

  • Conduct energy-related research tasks as requested by supervisor.

  • Present verbally, prepare reports and other materials as needed to communicate the results.

  • Actively participate in team meetings

  • Regular, predictable attendance is required to perform the essential duties of this position.

  • Apply expertise to support research, perform Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA), and solve problems within energy-related topics.

  • Assist in laboratory data gathering.

  • Evaluate proposed systems for engineering feasibility, and note areas of concern (violations of thermodynamics, slow reaction kinetics, unreasonable reaction or heating vessel sizes).

  • Participate in the development of responses to external agency RFPs, FOAs, and reporting.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Write technical papers and publish in peer-reviewed journals

  • Work closely with HERC and SER staff, stakeholders, collaborators, and industry stakeholders on applied energy studies

  • Engage in a professional manner to have a positive impact on the performance and morale of HERC staff, interaction with HERC stakeholders, and the overall quality of the Center

  • Help to support and organize data collection, monitor, and assess data quality, and ensure input and maintenance of relevant databases

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position is eligible for remote work and/or a flexible work schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in relevant field (Physicist, Geochemist, Economist, Data/GIS/Computer Science, Visualization, social sciences related to energy development, etc.)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A masters or PhD degree in science, engineering, technology, mathematics, or related field, or anticipated award of such a degree within six months.

  • Demonstrated ability working on team-oriented multidisciplinary research.

  • At least a semester of experience performing at least one of the following: TEAs, Life Cycle Analysis, engineering field studies, or formal engineering systems analysis (such as with Aspen Plus, HYSYS, COCO Simulator, or civil/electrical/mechanical engineering equivalents).

  • Ability to present a poster or slides for a ~15minute talk to government, academic, or NGO audience (not necessarily within the topic of the candidates' degree).

  • A long record of performing successful team-oriented multidisciplinary research.

  • Evidence of routine performance of TEAs and LCAs for client-directed studies, and formal engineering analysis in chemical, mechanical, civil, and electrical settings. (For example: working at an engineering consulting firm in the TEA or LCA space.)

  • Peer-reviewed publications, presentations to highly-visible audiences, a wealth of routine publications and presentations, or other means of demonstrating comfort presenting findings to sometimes critical groups.

  • Past experience responding to external agency requests for funding proposals (RFPs), external funding opportunity announcements (FOAs), and writing reports for the same, ideally in the Hydrogen interest area.

  • Past experience performing work or studying the Hydrogen interest area, especially production through electrolysis, gas reforming, capture of CO2, storage of gases in natural reservoirs, transport of gases by truck/pipeline/rail/etc..
