Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is looking for a qualified Separations Technologies Postdoctoral Researcher to perform laboratory-based research and development in membrane science and engineering. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off reporting to the Project Investigator.

The Primary role is to perform engineering research and development activities associated with membrane separations, filtration, or materials recovery. This can include the use of various separations methods, such as membrane distillation (MD), forward osmosis (FO), reverse osmosis (RO), ultrafiltration (UF), and nanofiltration (NF).

Responsibilities Include:

  • Design and operate systems for separating desired components to facilitate chemical conversion processes. Activities will include process modeling using commercial software, such as ASPEN Plus to determine process thermodynamics and technoeconomic analysis. It will also involve scale-up of selected technologies.

  • Expectation to author peer-reviewed publications and technical presentations at national and international level conferences.

  • Establish research plans and experimental designs for research projects or programs, assimilate and interpret laboratory data and employ knowledge to develop conclusions and theories, serves as a technical resource to others and a liaison to other Departments and external collaborators, serves as a contributor to the generation of reports, publications, and intellectual property.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, chemistry, or related field having been conferred within the past 5 years, or the PhD requirements must be completed by commencement of the Postdoctoral appointment.

  • Significant experience conducting hands on membrane separations and technoeconomic analysis.

  • Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills in English.

Desired Requirements:

  • US citizenship.

  • Experience in proposal writing and capture of funding.

Job Information:

  • The target pay range for this position is $96,900 annually. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
