Position Overview

The Sensory Science Lead, under the supervision of the Sensory science manager, is responsible for but not limited to, the day-to-day operation of the QA Sensory laboratory. They will manage the temporary lab technician, scheduling laboratory activities and prioritizes and assign tasks to lab technicians. They will analyze, interpret, and report sensory findings to internal stakeholders.

The Sensory lead performs duties to support lab technicians and train lab technicians on sensory protocols, sample preparations and proper food safety methods. The sensory lead orders lab supplies and assists in placing work orders and lab equipment maintenance. In addition, the sensory lead will support the training of sensory panelists, the external panel team, vendors, and Customers.

Responsibilities

1.Coordinates and leads test preparation and plans test protocols to be used. Duties include prioritizing and assisting in sample preparation of customer complaints, plant samples and vendor samples.

2.Oversees daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance on all sensory equipment. Tracks Sensory walk-in freezer temperature. Issue work orders for repairs and recommend replacement/new equipment if needed.

3.Supports vendors and plants on Sensory Shelf-Life studies. Supports the management of the gold standard program.

4.Supervises contract employees' daily responsibilities, vacation time etc.

5.Communicate sensory issues, analyze interpret and report Sensory test results to the appropriate personnel. Daily

6.Assist in the training of sensory panelists and vendors on the Quality Sensory Method. Assist in panel performance exercises

Qualifications

  • BS in Technical Area related to foods, emphasis in Sensory Evaluation

  • Minimum 3 years of related Sensory experience. Demonstrated leadership skills in present and past performance. Ability to work tight deadlines, attention to detail, demonstrate flexibility and ability to multi-task.

  • Excellent written & oral communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization. Proven attention to detail and accuracy.

    Must be flexible and adaptable to business needs. Strong interpersonal and customer relations skills. Ability to perceive flavor, texture, and Color differences.

    Safety is a priority for the quality team. This person must be able to work safely, recognize concerns, and address the concerns to prevent accidents.

  • Proven analytical, mathematical, verbal, written and attention to detail skills. Proficiency with PC's - demonstrated knowledge of Windows operating system and Microsoft applications (i.e., Word, Excel), Compusense, SharePoint, Teams and PowerApps. Basic laboratory skills, proficient food preparation skills and excellent housekeeping skills.
