Sensor Electronics Hardware Engineering Intern

As a Sensor Electronics Hardware Engineering Intern at Molex you will have the opportunity to use your education to tackle real world engineering challenges. The thermal sensing team is seeking an electronics engineering intern to expand the capabilities of our transmitter platform. The candidate will work alongside the engineering team to translate user requirements into functional hardware designs through analysis, prototyping, and testing in laboratory and field environments. An ideal candidate will have a strong hands-on background with both hardware design as well as coding so that they can design and test hardware while working with the embedded software team to program and debug their designs.

Position Qualifications


  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Software or Computer Engineering

  • Must be on track to graduate by June of 2020 or 2021

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Digital and analog electronics design experience

  • Familiar with use of modern test equipment such as digital oscilloscope and digital multimeters

  • Experience with Microcontroller fundamentals & SPI, I2C, and/or UART serial protocols


  • Experience with wireless networks

  • C / C++ Programming with embedded devices

  • Experience with version-control systems (e.g. Git)

  • Experience using a Protocol Analyzer

He/She will also be responsible for product design engineering and/or analysis support of certain product series in development/production phase.Major Areas of Responsibility * Create, maintain and analyze product design using Altium Designer * Provide design and development expertise from new concept idea to production implementation, including but not limited to schematic capture, circuit simulation, WCCA, board prototyping, PCB layout, generating Gerbers, design for manufacturability and board testing * Support selection and specification of electrical and electronics components * Conduct, coordinate and track electrical/electronic hardware failure analysis, root cause investigation and corrective implementation * Perform technical design review within the organization and with customers at concept, design validation and production sign-off stages * Manage electronics related technical documentation Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * In-depth understanding of BLDC motor commutation and control theory * In-depth understanding of basic DC/DC power converter(s) physics and applications * In-depth understanding of power electronic components physics, simulation models and applications, including TVS, Zener diodes, Schottky diodes, BJTs, power MOSFETs * Proficient in one of the following simulation software: PSpice, LTSpice, MATLAB Simulink * Proficient in circuit schematic capture/PCB layout design CAD software (preferably Altium Designer) * Good understanding of PCB manufacturing process and design for manufacturability * Familiar with embedded system software design (preferably Microchip's dsPIC family) * Familiar with embedded C coding on 16-bit controller * Familiar with assembly coding * Hands-on experience in vehicle communication system including but not limited to CAN, LIN, SPI, both applications and implementation on the embedded software level Education and Experience * Bachelor of Science Degree (or above) in Electrical Engineering or related engineering disciplines * 5+ years of progressive electronic/electrical components, circuits and systems design engineering experience in the automotive or related industry * 5+ years of electrical/electronic circuit simulation and control analysis, preferably on automotive electrical power systems * 5+ years of electronic embedded system hardware and software controls experience in the automotive or related industry * 5+ years of automotive electronics printed circuit board manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation and testing activities Physical Demands * 6+ hours a day sitting at desk and working with computer screen * Exert up to 20 lbs. of force to occasionally lift electrical testing equipment/electronic hardware * Occasionally attend meetings at night (after 7:00PM), and/or early morning (before 6:00AM) * Occasionally work over the weekend * Occasionally travel overseas Working Environment * Standard office cubicle * Standard electronics testing lab CTS Lisle IL
