Job Function: The Senior/Principal Scientist position is responsible for providing technical leadership in the capture and execution of science & technology (S&T) programs in wireless networking and related applications. Areas of focus include automated network orchestration and optimization (software-defined networking) for mobile ad-hoc networks; network-enabled applications (sensing, ranging, localization); design of MAC, routing and transport protocols for MANETs; power/topology control; QoS provisioning; security and privacy; IoT, massive machine to machine communications; heterogeneous wireless networking.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Originates and evaluates technical solutions/concepts for capture and execution of relevant S&T programs,

  • Works closely with Business Area leads for technical development towards white paper & proposals,

  • Works closely with Engineering leads to understand feasibility of, and constraints related to testing, implementation and demonstration envisioned technical capabilities.

  • Works closely with Technology Office Senior/Principal Scientists to review progress on S&T programs against technical objectives, leads planning for internal and external technical program reviews

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Work Experience :

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science with emphasis on Wireless Networking
  • A minimum of 5/15 years of industry experience with M.Sc. degree for Senior/Principal Scientist,
  • A minimum of 4/12 years of industry/academic experience with Ph.D. degree for Senior/Principal Scientist.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • Technical maturity and experience in communication methods of Layer-2 and above, including (i) MAC-layer protocols, e.g. TDMA, FH-MA, CDMA, (ii) Networking protocols such as IPv4/IPv6, routing and gateway protocols, (iii) Transport protocols such as TCP & UDP,

  • Software implementation experience, including C/C++/Python,

  • Scientific computing experience in MatLAB or Python

  • Network simulator experience in QualNet, OPNET, or EMANE

  • Ability to understand & articulate key performance trade-offs to highlight program objectives

  • Understanding of basics of classical (Bayesian) and modern (deep) methods for machine learning

  • Experience in cybersecurity and electronic warfare (desirable)

  • Works independently, demonstrates initiative and interacts with a variety of engineering development teams.

  • Demonstrates strong documentation skills and proficient with PC office applications.

  • Demonstrates analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • U.S. Citizenship Required

  • Ability to obtain security clearance is strongly preferred.
