Software Engineers at GLG build the platform that matches companies around the world with the people who can help them make the right call on their most important decisions on demand. Working on one of our self-organizing teams you'll pair with other engineers, product managers, and users to set and achieve goals that help GLG continue to define the future of work.

We are a rapidly growing team with a lot of programmers and relatively few managers -- a trend we're hoping to keep as we continue to expand the team. We value results and flexibility over process and dogma.

The Problems You'll Solve

How do you figure out what topic someone knows better than anyone else? How do you match that person to a business that has a problem they don't fully understand? These are some of the ways our Engineers are solving these enormous problems right now:

  • Search --Working closely with our internal research team, we provide advanced search tools that let our research managers pinpoint the right people to introduce to our customers for each project. By integrating more and more data, we are constantly striving to boost recall while maintaining high numbers for accuracy and keeping an interface that is simple and intuitive.

  • Artificial Intelligence --We currently make 10% of our matches with AI and machine learning techniques and are looking to steadily increase that percentage. This is a great start, but there is huge opportunity to improve our accuracy and scale.

You will

  • Build and drive solutions using the technologies you and your team choose.

  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to create a technical vision for future products.

  • Develop applications using modern technologies and tools, including React, Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Golang, Serverless computing, SQL, PyTorch, Tensorflow, NLP etc.

  • Mentor and pair with other developers, honing your coding, software design and leadership skillsets.

  • Work remotely when you want, but also accessanyof our amazingoffices, worldwide.

  • Make top-of-market salary.

You have

  • 8+ years of experience as a software engineer building applications and service-based systems.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to educate other team members on modern technologies and coding patterns.

  • A desire to participate in all aspects of the development lifecycle from inception to implementation and support.

  • The ability to thrive and in a self-directed environment.

  • Concrete mentorship skills.

  • The ability to measure your result in business results rather than lines of code.

This team is very much at the heart of Morningstar’s mission of empowering investors through research, data, and technology (https://www.morningstar.com/company). This role is with the Analytics Platform half of the DnA team. Our team is fast paced, ambitious, and is relentlessly focused on value delivery. We are deeply inquisitive, we don’t take “that’s just how it’s done” or “that’s just best practice” as valid answers for why things are done. We love to see our products be used, and given our focus on value delivery, we don't over-engineer our products, services, or processes. We are self-driven professionals who thrive in the face of uncertainty and lean towards taking action with the information available. We have a can-do attitude and we all show willingness to take deep ownership of projects and processes. We’re not ticket crunchers, we measure productivity in terms of how understandable and maintainable the code is along with functionality. We are passionate about keeping the system modern, reusable, and maintainable. We love to collaborate and value team productivity over individual productivity. We’re humble and direct about what we know and what don’t. We foster psychological safety within the team. We believe in finishing, delivering, then iterating. We’re very serious about learning with regular hackathons, lunch and learns, and conferences. Role As a software engineer in the Core Analytics Platform team in [Toronto/Chicago/New York/Mumbai], you will be working in a cross-functional team, collaborating with teammates in Toronto, Chicago, New York, and Mumbai. As part of the team, you will also work closely with the quantitative analysts (aka data scientists) and help them by building a platform to allow them to collaboratively build then seamlessly deploy and operationalize their models. You will be exposed to all aspects of product development: design of user experience, system architecture, model development, productionizing models, API/library/CLI development, data visualization tools, code reviews, automated testing, automated infrastructure, systems monitoring, and support. Qualifications • Friendly and enjoys working in a collaborative team with excellent spoken and written communication skills. Humble, honest, and to the point. • Hard working, ambitious, inquisitive, problem solver. • Deep experience with at least one programming language. If this deep knowledge is in Python, that is a plus, but deep experience in any language (e.g. Java, C#) will do. • Writing understandable maintainable code. • Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, application protocols, security) • Experience with Linux. Nice to Haves - Not Requirements! • Knowledge of computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, design patterns. • Experience with engineer practices such as writing design documents, performing code reviews, pair programming, participating in Scrum/Kanban workflows. • Experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes • Experience with infrastructure as code tools.
