With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA's metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers.

Central Engineering is KLA's largest engineering organization comprised of 9 Centers-of-Excellence (CoE) in various disciplines applied across all product groups in the company. These CoE include Handling & Automation, Precision Motion Control, Sensors & Image Acquisition, Platform Design, and Packaging Engineering, among others. Talent includes over 500 engineers across global centers in Israel, China, India, and the US. Each CoE contributes not just talent and deliverables per discipline toward product programs, but also subject matter expertise, best practices, roadmaps, specialized facilities, apparatus, models, and analytics. These differentiate KLA not only in WHAT we do, but also in HOW we do it.


  • Serve as the lead systems engineer and guide and lead less experienced product development engineers and systems engineers throughout product design cycle

  • Develop requirement specifications from performance requirements using systems engineering methodology

  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams to develop and implement design improvements to currently released products as well as assist in development of next generation products.

  • Apply systems engineering principles to optimize system level instrument performance.

  • Lead the development and testing of systems design improvements, spec validation, and implementation of solutions.

  • Gather and analyze data from systems at customer sites to identify sources of systematic or intermittent issues.

  • Respond to field escalations where field service engineers have failed to resolve complex system performance problems, by providing written plans of action by e-mail, phone or on-site hands-on assistance at customer sites worldwide.

  • Write technical reports to communicate issues, analysis, technical assessments, system status, best-known-methods, and engineering recommendations.

  • Be able to quickly get up to speed to design and execute multi-disciplinary experiments, write and peer review detailed test plans and summary reports for system testing.

  • Coordinate and perform root cause analysis to solve problems.

  • Interface closely with service, manufacturing, engineering and marketing team to define and optimize system performance and resolve performance issues.

  • Coordinate with outside vendors to perform and deliver sub-system products.

  • Hands-on troubleshooting and maintenance of engineering prototype systems in division headquarters.


  • Ideal candidate will have 5+ years of industry experience in systems design role for complex, optical-based systems or other precision instruments

  • Strongly prefer experience serving as technical lead on overall system design to a small group of engineers or someone with the ability to lead other systems engineers

  • Must have a degree in Engineering, Physics, Material Science or related fields

  • Have a working knowledge of precision instruments, opto-mechanical systems and control systems

  • Experience with semiconductor instruments desired

  • Proficient with data analysis tools such as JMP, Matlab, Microsoft Excel

  • Programming skills in Matlab and scripting languages, such as Python

  • Have excellent oral and written communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills

  • Previous experience with yield and process control instrument systems for semiconductor industry is desired

  • Be able to clearly communicate with cross functional internal teams, division management, as well as external customers

  • The candidate should be self-driven and a strong team player

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate (Academic) or

  • Master's Level Degree with at least 2 years of experience or

  • Bachelor's Level Degree with at least 3 years of experience

The Role As Senior Systems Engineer, you will be part of the Cloud Operations and Reliability Engineering team (CORE), working to build and support cloud infrastructure for the ITHAKA platform. ITHAKA engineering teams use Amazon Web Services (AWS), Cassandra, Jenkins, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, Solr, Graphite, and more to build and manage distributed applications following emerging cloud architectural patterns.
