Being a Senior Respite Companion or Behavior Support Companion is more than just a job, as you will develop a personal relationship with the individuals and families you work with.
Our Respite Companions provide highly trained non-medical direct services/compassionate home companions to children with developmental disabilities and other special needs.

Areas of Orange County, CA, Tustin, Santa Ana, Irvine, Stanton, Westminster, Orange, Laguna Niguel, Huntington Beach, Anaheim, and surrounding areas!

This is a full-time position with flexible hours!

Looking for OPEN availability, with high need in late afternoons (3-9 pm) and Weekends are required

Responsibilities:
The Senior Respite Companion will serve as the primary support staff and will possess the necessary skills to deal effectively with the day-to-day challenges of providing respite services to clients, including the demonstrated ability to increase specified client skills.

  • Provide primary caregivers the opportunity to enjoy breaks from their daily caregiving responsibilities.
  • Assist clients, their parents/guardians and their siblings to enjoy a less stressful home environment.
  • Work in people's homes & in varied community settings serving families in San Fernando Valley areas
  • Maintain a positive relationship with the family or families cared for
  • Engage with the client through activities they enjoy
  • Provide personal care and support to assist with daily living care needs
  • Conduct and lead socialization activities
  • Responsible for record-keeping for each of the service recipients

The overall goal of the Senior is to be a model behavior support companion and work collaboratively in a team

  • 80% in-field duties
      • Provide primary caregivers with the opportunity to enjoy breaks from their daily caregiving responsibilities
      • 1:1 direct sessions - Assist clients, their parents/guardians, and their siblings to enjoy a less stressful home environment.
      • Work in people's homes & in varied community settings serving families in San Fernando Valley.
      • Maintain a positive relationship with the family or families cared for
      • Engage with the client through activities they enjoy
      • Provide personal care and support to assist with daily living care needs
      • Conduct and lead socialization activities
      • Responsible for record-keeping for each of the service recipients.
      • Cross training new hires in the field
      • Onboarding new clients in the field with new hires and current staff
      • Providing additional support in the field with staff requesting additional overlaps
      • On-call coverage for possible field cancellations
      • Meeting and cross training with all clients in the department to ensure knowledge of each person we service.
  • 20% administrative duties
      • Help upkeep client files and documents; including updating shift guidelines, proactive/reactive strategies, organizing data/case notes, client binders, in collaboration with Supervisor
      • Working in collaboration with supervisor and BCBA on updating and running programs with monthly team meeting and in the field
      • Collaborating with supervisor on scheduling and maximizing service hours
      • Being supervisor's back up for potential New Hire Orientations
      • Attending referral intakes with supervisor to ensure smooth transition on onboarding a new referral as being the point person for in-field trainings
      • Assisting and collaborating in dept projects involving the team and clients
    • Minimum 1 office day per week (approx. 2-4 hours of work and collaboration with Supervisor and Program Administrator.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Basic computer skills
  • Familiar with Developmental & Intellectual Disabilities
  • Have worked and familiar with the Regional Center
  • Have some experience with training new staff and assisted with scheduling
  • Availability to work evenings and one day on the weekend. The schedule will be based on the needs of the client and family.
  • Required: 1 year+ experience with Respite Companion caregiving, Direct Support Professional work, or working with Individuals with Disabilities/Autism Spectrum Disorder, etc.

Training:

  • Participate in approximately 40 hours of required training and would complete it during the first three months of employment.
  • Includes competency-based training, on-the-job field training and any other training provided by the professional staff of IABA and/or professionals outside the agency.

Salary range: $22.00 - $23.00/hour

Requirements

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • ‪Proof of valid driver's license, copy of auto insurance liability coverage, and clear DMV report
  • Operational vehicle
  • Proof of/willing to receive CPR and First Aid training certifications
  • Clearance with the Department of Justice by completing background report

Physical Activity Requirements:

  • Ability to physically assist, guide, and facilitate movement of clients that may need physical assistance (e.g., wheelchair transfer, walking, etc.)
  • Ability to actively participate in frequent recreational activities
  • Ability to physically lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds (e.g., groceries, housewares, or move furniture).
