SUMMARY

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers (LBYR) is seeking an ambitious, entrepreneurial senior or executive editor to join our team. As a boutique division within a big 5 publisher and a division of Hachette Livre, the third largest publisher in the world, LBYR is committed to growing our business in exciting new directions. The Senior/Executive Editor will acquire and cultivate new talent as well as grow existing author brands across all categories picture book, middle grade, young adult, graphic novel, fiction and nonfiction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acquire and/or edit 10-15 books a year and manage all aspects of publication from manuscript to published book

  • Collaborate with Design, Marketing, and Publicity to create compelling package and clear market positioning

  • Work with Finance, Production, and Sales to produce P&Ls that achieve sales and profitability targets

  • Explore and propose innovative publishing models

  • Represent LBYR at trade shows, conferences, and industry events

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of 7 years of children's book publishing experience,

  • Proven ability to identify titles with potential and position them to stand out in a competitive market

  • Strong knowledge of the retail and school/library markets

  • Excellent project management-skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with authors, artists, agents and HBG team in US and with our international affiliates

  • Solid Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, Excel, and Bookscan skills

This role reports to the Executive Director of Marketing and supports the Digital Marketing Associate. Responsibilities: * Support Digital Marketing Associate and Executive Director of Marketing * In partnership with the Digital Marketing Associate, manage and grow @LittleBrownYoungReaders and @TheNovl across social media platforms, engaging with and responding directly to readers and authors * Execute title-specific digital and social media marketing campaigns across the picture book, middle grade, and young adult categories * Develop and curate branded digital assets and content, including enewsletters, blog posts, quizzes, shareable graphics, memes, downloadable resources, and videos * Manage the imprint's websites: LBYR.com, TheNOVL.com, LBArtistAward.com, TheLandofStories.com, and MysteriousBenedictSociety.com * Strategize and run paid social media advertising campaigns on Facebook Business Manager and Google AdWords with A/B testing and budget optimization * Track, evaluate, and share marketing and advertising campaign analytics * Participate in and contribute to the running of industry conferences, consumer festivals, and other events * Organize and actively participate in meetings * Handle general administrative responsibilities for the team Qualifications: * College degree and relevant digital and/or social media internship/work experience * Interest in book publishing, with a particular enthusiasm for children's and young adult books * Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop), video editing (Premiere), HTML, CSS, and Squarespace * Experience with photography, Hootsuite, WordPress, and Google Analytics a plus * Excellent written, verbal, and social communication skills * Ability to work within a fast-paced, deadline-driven, collaborative environment * Proactive problem solver who is creative, positive, goal-driven, and detail-oriented Hachette Book Group USA New York NY
