Senior Windows/VMWare Administrator

  • This position will be the lead systems administrator supporting web hosting and e-discovery environments for automated litigation support.

  • Will be responsible for maintaining, analyzing, and optimizing system performance, stability, and growth.

  • Will serve as the team lead for mid-level and junior administrators, helping to grow and train the team. Responsible for the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures and system documentation.

  • Will work with other IT personnel, such as application owners, DBA's, and developers to help them carry out their respective missions.

  • The candidate should be able to manage medium to large size projects, be a self-starter, and be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain a government security clearance.

  • Ten or more years of overall IT systems administration experience.

  • At least seven years of hands on experience implementing, configuring, tuning, and troubleshooting a Windows Server environment, including but not limited to, Active Directory, Group Policies, Remote Desktop Web Access, Managed Service Accounts, IIS, DNS, and DHCP.

  • At least five years of hands on experience deploying and managing a VMWare vSphere/vCenter environment.

  • Experience writing scripts in languages such as PowerShell, VB, Python, or Ruby.

  • Experience setting up and maintaining server hardware, Dell and HP rack servers, Cisco UCS Blade Chassis, NetApp Storage, tape libraries, etc.

  • Hands on experience working with enterprise backup utilities, such as Veritas Netbackup or EMC Networker.

  • Some experience in supporting databases, especially Microsoft SQL Server.

  • Experience working with storage array technology, with a preference towards NetApp products.

  • Knowledge of government security standards and requirements such as FIPS 140-2, NIST SP800, and DoD STIGs.

  • Strong communications, leadership, and problem solving/analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some knowledge of Cisco iOS and/or NX-OS a plus.

  • Some knowledge of Linux OS a plus.

  • Litigation support highly valued.

Oversees technical aspects of these systems in the staging and production environments. Trains other staff in the management and oversight of these systems. Provide on-going knowledge transfer with the rest of the Production Support Team and frequent communication with Tier 1 and Tier 3 teams. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: (Not listed in order of importance; other duties may be assigned) * Handles support questions from users and multiple external interfaces, both to and from, that are elevated from the Tier 1 help desk * Manages the external connections, both to and from, to include: * Network change requests; normally requires coordination with three networking teams, DHHQ-Network team, DISA and Target Network team * Managers the application-level security for interfaces to and from the application; certificate management and SFTP user accounts * Some external connections require manual generation and delivery of extracts; the extract of data and delivery are handled by production support team * Manages end-user application account changes/approvals * The data owners for the TMDS/MSAT applications have a policy regarding getting accounts and elevation of permissions within the application; with the help desk, the team helps ensure this process is as smooth as possible for the end-users * Monitors the health of the servers in the production and staging environments. Approximately 20+ serves that need to be continuously monitored for various conditions (accessibility, message flow, etc.) * Monitors the Low-to-High process to ensure blood, medical facility and patient encounter data moves from TMDS to MSAT successfully * Expertise with Windows Server administration Master Cluster Management Server (MCMS) Support * Responsible for providing technical oversight, which includes maintenance, monitoring, periodic updates, troubleshooting, training of staff, documentation and overall support. Tier Three Support (San Antonio, TX and Maui, HI) * The development/sustainment team will request details about specific configuration or data in the production database that isn't normally visible to them. This can be as simple as a query against the DB provided by a developer to as complex as needing to diagram and outline the production message flow for specific message types. * Supports acquisition of workstations for the Sustainment team during upgrades and installation activities * Should oversee the workflow during upgrade/installation activities tracking and reporting progress to both vendor and government leads Infrastructure Support * The team supports the DHHQ IT team in managing the maintenance of the TMDS/MSAT servers and the workstations assigned to the TMDS/MSAT team * Works with the IA team to resolve security related configurations that are impacting operation or performance of the TMDS/MSAT Applications and/or workstations * Responds to and reports up potential security breaches detected within our part of the network and/or application * Strong understanding of networking and network architecture; able to help design, document and implement improvements to the infrastructure the applications rely upon * Familiarity with X.509 certificates as they are used by application servers; to include, generation of certificate signing requests, multi-san certificates and management of private certificates for the servers * Experience working with Oracle database servers and experience with relational database models to understand the application's data structure * Automate tasks through the use of batch files or Powershell scripts * General networking concepts to perform/assist network configuration and maintenance. Understanding of concepts behind firewall capabilities.
