The drainage engineer is responsible for designing systems that move water from one place to another, as safely and efficiently as possible. This is a highly technical role involving use of advanced computer modelling tools. When designing drainage systems, the drainage engineer must analyze factors such as environmental impact, aesthetics, and project costs, and this position must be aware of local laws governing drainage system construction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Production of design calculations, technical reports, permitting, and engineering plans and specifications for design of drainage systems for various transportation projects such as roadway, rail, and airports
Design of storm drains/sewers, and detention facilities.
Provide strong and focused support for transportation projects in area of hydrology and hydraulics for roadway drainage and major and minor crossing structures.
Analyze and design urban storm drainage systems (hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater quality, and detention).
Produce hydrologic and hydraulic analyses with computer aided software and proprietary models.
Minimum 15 years of experience
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
California licensed professional engineer in Civil Engineering
Task Management experience with hydraulic and hydrology design and analysis
Understands project financials and schedules, and developing level of efforts for projects
Confident in interpreting and identifying issues and recommending solutions using best practices or innovative solutions and procedures
Experienced in drainage engineering and design development, water quality modeling and management, environmental permitting and municipal, commercial and industrial compliance
Experience with computer aided drafting software and 3D models, such as Microstation, InRoads, AutoCAD, and Civil3D as well as latest Microsoft Office platforms.
Experience in using engineering software: ArcMap, Arc View/GIS, HECHMS, HECRAS, TR55, WSPGW, FlowMaster, FLO-2D
Knowledge and experience using design standards and policies of local, state and federal agencies, including Caltrans.
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to execute hydraulic analyses and design projects accurately and within specified deadlines with the agencies identified.
Knowledge of stormwater design including conveyance systems and stormwater treatment using appropriate BMPs suitable for linear transportation projects.
Ability to prepare Erosion and Sedimentation Control Plans per Caltrans and California SWRCB requirements.
