Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking a talented and driven Senior Water Resources Engineer to join our team. As the third key member of our newly formed Water Resources Projects group, you'll play a vital role in overseeing significant capital and repair projects that are central to our mission within the SPU Water Line of Business.
In this role, you'll be more than just an engineer; you'll be a leader in conducting essential water system analyses, identifying business case opportunities, and guiding projects from concept to completion. With a focus on dam safety and capital improvement, you'll collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, driving projects that will impact our community for years to come. Key responsibilities for this role:
Leading Water Resources business cases up to the selection of a preferred option
Managing O&M and capital projects from start to finish
Maintaining communication and relationships
Leading teams for projects and planning efforts
Managing maintenance planning for Water Resource's assets

Education/Experience: Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology and five (5) years professional civil engineering experience
OR
In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree in an accredited program, nine (9) years of professional civil engineering work experience under the supervision of a licensed engineer may be substituted. There is no equivalency for the PE license.
ADDITIONALLY
All Candidates will need to possess the following required qualifications:
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington
Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility
Desired Skills/Experience:
Classwork and experience in water resources, hydrology, and hydraulic design and analysis, and water rights
Experience managing capital projects with values of one million dollars or more, including initiation, options analysis, design, construction, and transition to operation
Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary teams, including equipment operators, subject matter experts, stakeholders, and resource agencies
Experience communicating technical information to technical and non-technical audiences, including organizational leadership, members of the public, stakeholders, and Indian tribal members and staff
Experience writing both generally but particularly on technical topics, including reviewing, contributing to, and leading development of complete technical reports
Enthusiasm for mixed field and office work, challenging projects, and building teams
This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Starting November 4, 2024, City employees will have the option to work remotely two days a week. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.

The full salary range for this position is: $66.70 - $77.67 per hour
