Southern California Edison's Environmental Services Department (ESD) is a portfolio of divisions that provide environmental compliance services to all organizational units across SCE.

Get ready. You will join our team, as a Senior Water Quality Specialist in the Water Quality Section within ESD. You will serve in a highly visible role, where you will be recognized internally/externally as a subject matter expert in the field of water quality. You will represent SCE through direct interaction with environmental regulatory agencies to obtain National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits for construction storm water. This is a meaningful job that requires you to conduct regulatory analysis and negotiations, and correspond with regulatory agencies, typically with the State Water Resources Control Board, Regional Water Quality Control Boards, and local municipalities.
Detailed stuff you'll be doing...
Building internal company-wide corporate compliance guidance documents and procedures related to Construction Storm Water and SCE's Storm Water Management Programs.
Having a highly visible role, reviewing and commenting on proposed Water Quality regulation, legislation and policy.
Serving as a key partner, advising SCE organizational units on new environmental requirements/ compliance risk related to water quality.
Another key focus will be delivering water quality training these organizational units.
Preparing for self-assessments and inspections, developing Comprehensive Corrective Action Plans and responding to agency notices.
Performing site or field inspections for compliance with storm water plans and standards, developing Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), Erosion Sediment Control Plans, and other water quality plans.
Qualifications you need
You have a Bachelor's degree or higher, in Engineering, Hydrogeology, Physical or Natural Science, or a related technical discipline. You have five (5) or more years of experience in the field of environmental compliance, performing complex analysis, consulting, and providing recommendations.
Experience reviewing and preparing storm water permits, programs, and procedures including the statewide Construction General Storm Water Permit.
Experience providing guidance on Best Management Practices (BMP), design effectiveness and implementation.
Experience working with and analyzing laws and regulations related to the Federal Clean Water Act and the California Porter-Cologne Act.
Ability to analyze laws and regulations to evaluate their applicability to SCE operations.
Other stuff that will set you up for success
Certified Professional in Stormwater Quality (CPSWQ) or Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC).
Qualified Storm Water Pollution Prevention SWPPP Developer (QSD), Qualified Storm Water Pollution Prevention SWPPP Practitioner (QSP), or capable of obtaining certification within first year of employment.
Experience developing and delivering training presentations.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with other departments and all levels of the workforce, environmental groups, and public agencies.
Strong analytical skills, to analyze data, interpret results and develop procedures consistent with regulatory requirements.
You should know
You are legally authorized to work directly as employee for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Relocation does not apply to this position.
This position may require additional on-call support and after-hours duty.
