General Statement

The Senior Volunteer Services Coordinator, under general supervision, coordinates volunteer service programs for assigned departments. Work includes soliciting, training and overseeing the work of volunteers as well as performing outreach and training activities for the general public.

Essential Functions

Manages and implements the following programs: Christmas Bureau, Volunteer Income Tax Program (VITA), Easter Baskets, School Supply Drive, Human Services Food Pantry, and Donation Drives.

Develops and implements effective strategies to recruit and retain qualified volunteers with the appropriate abilities and aptitudes for each of the programs above and assists with recruitment of volunteers for the Senior Nutrition Outreach Program.

Engages community partners, non-profits and local businesses and promotes programs through public speaking, tours, news media, emails, etc.

Solicits donations as needed for each program (monetary, food, etc.).

Maintains community and donor relationships to ensure program success.

Orients and trains all volunteers to the program, population served, and work areas. Tracks all training as required by each program and funding source.

Coordinates and plans program activities and logistics.

Manages the volunteer database.

Creates volunteer assignments for specific work areas or services and special events.

Assists with Community Educational Programs and Health Education Programs as well as other CSO activities and events.

Performs clerical tasks in recording and documenting work performed, answers phones, and responds to inquiries and complaints.

Maintains knowledge of the departmental policies and procedures and the service needs of the agency.

Skilled in the use and operation of all necessary computer equipment/programs used by the program.

Reports results on a monthly or yearly basis, including volunteer hours, donations secured, number of clients served the program, number of presentations, etc.

Adheres to annual Volunteer Program budget.

Assists with the development of Volunteer Policy and Procedures and the Volunteer Handbook updates.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses or Certifications:

Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to maintain a safe driving history as defined by the Union County Vehicle Use Policy.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience working with businesses, non-profits, or community agencies as partners within Union County, North Carolina; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Social Work or Public Health background experience is also preferred, but not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, typewriters, printers, telephones, calculators, copiers, fax machines, postage machines, charge machines, answering machines, paper cutters, intercom, etc. Must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. The use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work. The job is rated for Light Work.
