Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Senior Vice President of Business Operations and Chief Operating Officer. The Senior Vice President of Business Operations (SVPBO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) serves in a strategic role reporting directly to the President and serves as a member of the president's Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and cabinet. The SVPBO is the university's chief business operations strategist and executive responsible for aligning all aspects of the non-academic business, administrative, and finance operations of the university in support of the university's strategic goals and directions. Under the guidance of the president and in collaboration with other members of the SLT, the SVPBO/COO represents the institution on matters related to business operations, finance, and capital projects. Responsible for providing vision, leadership and oversight for assigned business units within the university.

Responsibilities

  • Executive responsible for all aspects of non-academic business, administration, and finance operations under the guidance of the president and in collaboration with other members of the SLT.

  • Represents the university as the Chief Operating Officer; and supervises the university's Chief Financial Officer.

  • Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes related to university operations.

  • Leads the strategy, planning, budgeting, daily leadership, policy oversight, operations and supervision of all B&F units and operations.

Responsible for providing vision, leadership, and oversight for all functions of Facilities, Auxiliary Services, Real Estate, General Counsel/Compliance, Human Resources, Public Safety, Information Technology and Financial Services/Budget Office.

  • Leads a team of staff, inspiring productive individual and team efforts in achieving stated goals.

  • Ensures all units are operating at optimal business efficiency and providing best-in-class customer service to our employees and students.

  • Develops, integrates, and leverages data, data tools, artificial intelligence and data trend analysis to drive decision making and planning.

  • Maintains and advocates the highest level of compliance, integrity, and transparency in all areas.

  • Motivate and lead a high-performance management team; attract, recruit, and retain team members.

  • Foster a success-oriented, accountable environment within the university.

  • Advises the President on strategic planning and management issues related to the business, administrative and operational effectiveness of the university.

  • Partners with senior leadership, president's cabinet and deans as a thought partner to develop, implement, and assess business operations in support of academics and student success.

  • Provide timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating condition of the university.

  • Collaborate with the university leadership team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the objectives of university.

  • Support the President in strategic analysis and planning, including advising the President on the operational and fiscal impact of planning alternatives.

  • Perform short- and long-term strategic and financial planning required to meet goals.

  • Provide evaluation of and strategic advice on the impact of the introduction of new programs/strategies.

  • Oversees capital and campus planning efforts.

  • Ensures that campus and facility planning supports student success, as well as the strategic aspirations and instructional mission of the university.

  • Manage facilities use and their development, including master and sustainability planning, public safety, transportation and parking.

  • Serves as primary university liaison to the Real Estate Foundation Board.

  • Establishes relationships with local, state and federal entities regarding coordination of respective operations.

  • Functions as Chief Business & Operations liaison to the University System of Georgia (USG) office.

  • Works to foster positive and mutually beneficial community relationships with the university.

  • Serves as officer on boards of affiliated organizations.

  • Oversees compliance with state and federal requirements, including supervising relations with state auditors, coordinating state appropriation requests, and developing information required by staffs of the University System Office state agencies and legislature.

  • Oversees external reporting requirements with government and other agencies such as SACSCOC and other entities.

  • Oversees the annual budget and planning process and seeks alignment of resources to strategy.

  • Directs and supervises the Chief Financial Officer.

  • Ensures reporting to external entities including accreditation and governmental reporting is accurate.

  • Monitor budgetary activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree is required
  • 10+ years senior level experience, preferably in higher education and within the University System of Georgia (USG), with at least 5 years of that experience in a senior management role.

  • Ability to work independent of supervision and exercise independent judgment in the discharge of duties.
