SENIOR UTILITY TECHNICIAN

Starting Hourly Rate: $21.60. The rate of pay depends on qualifications.

Hiring/Retention Incentive

External candidates who are hired by SAWS will receive a $1,000 Hiring Incentive. This incentive will be split into two payments of $500. The two payments will be made to the new hire on their second and fourth paycheck after they are hired. Upon successful completion of the new hire's six-month introductory period, the new hire will also be eligible for an additional $1,000 Retention Incentive, which will be paid during their seventh month of employment with SAWS.

Job Description

JOBSUMMARY

The Senior Utility Technician is responsible for a variety of manual and skilled labor duties for the repair, construction, and maintenance of the water distribution and wastewater collection system.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Performsmanual laborworktoincludeinstallationofpipesandfittings fortherepair, construction, and maintenanceof waterandwastewatersystems.

  • Assigned to operate dump trucks and crew trucks.

  • Operates front-endloaders, skidloaders and any other equipment assigned of similar size and complexity.

  • Excavatesandbackfillstrenches inordertocompleterepairs.

  • Transportsequipment,tools, andmaterialstoandfromjobsites, in compliance with Texas Department of Public Safety Rules.

  • Loadsandunloadsmaterials fromtrucks.

  • Stocks vehiclewith necessaryequipment andmaterial.

  • Cleans,organizesandmaintains facilities, tools andequipment.

  • Observesandpromotesallestablishedsafetyprocedures.

  • Interpretsmaps.

  • Assistwiththe setupof workzonebarricadesandsigns fortrafficcontrol.

  • Responsible for inventoryingtools, equipmentandmaterials.

  • Providestrainingontheproperusageoftools andequipment.

  • Adheres to any and all workplace safety rules and standards. Willing to report unsafe working conditions and stop work if needed to prevent accidents.

  • Performsother dutiesasassigned.

DECISIONMAKING

  • This position receives immediate supervision.

MINIMUMREQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License.

  • Position specific physical testing.

  • Ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work all designated work schedules.

HYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical requirements include lifting/carrying up to 40 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally; pushing a maximum force of 100 pounds; pulling a maximum force of 150 pounds. If assigned to the biosolidscrew, physical requirements include lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds frequently and 75 pounds occasionally. If assigned to the concretecrew, physical requirements include lifting/carrying up to 40 pounds frequently and 80 pounds occasionally. If assigned to the asphalt crew, physical requirements

include lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.

Subjecttostanding,sitting,walking,climbing,bending,crawling,squatting,kneelingandworkingincramped andstrained positionsforlongperiodsoftime.Requiresvisual acuity,speech,andhearing. Operatesa companyvehicleonadailybasis.

Required to work hours other than regular schedule such as days, nights, weekends, holidays, on-call and rotating shifts.
