This position is eligible for telework 3 days a week, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. A teleworker is considered Remote-centered if they work fifty percent or more of their time from an alternate work location. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Under general direction of the Program and Project Supervisor of the Wildfire Mitigation Plan Branch A of the Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety, the incumbent will be charged with leading the Division's technical/engineering team and its work including: supervising three Utilities Engineers; overseeing the review of technical sections of Wildfire Mitigation Plans such as wildfire risk modeling and electrical infrastructure deign, operation, and maintenance; reviewing existing safety requirements; and planning a monthly technical working group with utilities and stakeholders.

This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment.

Working Conditions

  • Energy Safety will utilize a Hybrid Remote/In-Person approach enabling staff to telework, when approved by management.

  • Energy Safety will used shared workspaces for most staff (hoteling stations) when required to work in the office.

  • Incumbent may be required to travel, including overnight stays, and on occasion be required to work unusual hours.

  • Must be willing to work irregular hours, nights, and/or weekends to meet the Department's business needs.

The mission of the Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) is to advance long-term utility infrastructure safety through data-driven, wildfire mitigation evaluation and compliance, excavation standards and education, in collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies, and in support of improved utility infrastructure, safety culture, and innovation.
